Haunted Sky box!!

    Folks,

    I have a problem with my Pace mini skybox. It is probably something simple however, whilst watching sky over the last month or so I have noticed that if I am watching something e.g. CSI, the epg gets called up and an other program is selected.

    Lastnight I it kept "perusing" the box office channels before going back and selecting something from the Discovery health channel.

    Most of the times it can be quite funny especially when my father in law stayed one weekend. He was watching a film and the box kept on selecting porn channels!! He leaves my remote alone now!!

    OTher times I notice that it also selects channels by keying the numbers 101 eg. for SKyOne.

    I have checked (just in case) with my immediate neigbours who have sky and it appears that its not them slecting those channels (I know they won't admit to the porn channels!)

    I currently use 4-5 tv-links, have a second dish - These I don't imagine are to blame.
    I also use Powermid RF extenders to control my amp/DVD/stereo from other rooms - I unplugged this last night to check if this is the cause.

    Any ideas folks, as it has me a bit puzzled - perhaps my box is simply haunted!!!

    If you have remote extenders (videosenders) and your neighbours have them is well maybe they are interfering (most remote extenders use a 433MHz radio link)

    spot on, looks like your neighbours are watching porn channels (DISGUSTING)
    it is as simple as this, if you are using remote extenders it stands to reason when your neighbours turn SKY over it will turn yours over aswell. you say they dont have the problem, this I would guess is because they dont have any extenders.

    Since I got the Lidl videosender a week ago, I've noticed that when I key in a channel number eg 101, then it comes up with 801 instead. While using the search and scan bar, it sometimes marks shows with a reminder — this is when pointing the control directly at the digibox (Pace minibox). The neighbour doesn't have a remote extender.

    One problem with the interference with my Sky box is that if my neighbour choses a box office movie, surely he can select one for my machine (albeit in error) and I shall get charged for same ??

    No, because he'd need to enter the correct PIN to buy the movie — his SHOULD be different to yours.

    As you are using TV Links it is most likely that one of these is picking up a signal from a house near you. Find the locations where you have a TV link near a window where you can see the window of another house. The remote will work for a fair distance in a direct line of sight.
