    Hello folks,
I was wondering if anybody knows anything about software for composing piano tracks (specifically piano) with a PC. I'm trying to stay away from midis, as most of the pianos patches don't sound real at all. I'm looking to get as realistic a sound as possible.

If there isn't anything specifically for piano, then as a last resort, does anybody know about the best away to get a decent piano effect from midis? (plugins for programs etc).

I have a Audigy 2 Platinum sound card with XP.

    Thanks,
    Sinecure.

If you're using the audigy, then you will have access to soundfonts for that card. Try http://www.hammersound.net for some excellent large piano soundfonts which should sound nice. There is nothing inherently wrong with MIDI - it's probably the default soundfont you're using that is not up to the job. Alternatively you might consider a software sampler like Tascam's gigasampler which streams samples from hard disk and can support HUGE sample banks. The other alternative is hardware - something like the roland jv1010 which is at end of life has some nice pianos and can be had for £250 new on some of the english sites.

    Hope this helps,

    Ivan
