Sick pay?

    Hi -

In my company, you get paid only 1/2 day if you're out sick, even if you have a doctor's note.
Is this fair, or is there a minimum amount of full-pay sick days you're entitled to?

    Thanks,

    q

I don't think companies HAVE to pay you at all if you're out sick.

Nope, you're not entitled to sick pay unless it's in your contract.

You're lucky you get any...up the north where I work, most companies don't pay sick pay till you've completed your probation.

I think with a doctors note you can claim full pay from the Social Welfare!! Used to be the company paid you for it and claimed it from Socail, but I think its up to you know! Go into an information office and ask, cant hurt!

    Remember hearing that somewhere recently!

Only kicks in after you'[ve been sick a certain number of days. And it's CRAP money.

Nah I think your work can reclaim a certain amount from social welfare when you're out sick for a day - as long as they're contributing the PRSI.

I think it amounts to whatever you would have got if you were of the dole for that day. You should be able to claim at least that if you're contributing.

But I am as they say, no expert.
