Marian Finucuane is to be replaced on the flagship stations breakfast show by Ryan tubridy (source ) the sunday world. they say at the moment they have no plans at this stage whether they have anything else lined up for marian.

personally I think Ryan sould stay with the full Irish

I would prefer him to stay with 2fm. RTE must want to attract a younger audience to Radio 1?

At the end of 1996 I was 24, Ryan was older than me then by about 2 years, I even remember seeing this in a tribune article at some point, Now as this year ends I'm 31 but ryan according to the indo on sunday is 30. Huge amount's of time and effort are been used to keep telling us that he's young, fresh and funny. It should be on his talent that we judge him. All age's given out by RTE PR should have a birth cert attached. The obsession that RTE have with age is pretty sad. Wogan would have been long retired if he were here.

Radio one should freeze him now so he's still fresh in a year's time.

Thread title is slightly misleading, its not about Morning Ireland, RTE wont change that. Its about Marian's show really. But I will change the title from Breakfast to mid-morning.

Suspected Finucane was out of favour with RTE when she got moved from the cushy (and popular) gig that is Liveline until mid-morning. Now Joe Duffy has made that slot his own and I don't think she can go back...

It was always going to be Finucane rather than Kenny who was dropped. Kenny is RTE's current lead presenter (although apparently Old Moore's Almanac has "a long running chat show" for the chop!) and I doubt they would drop him.

Its a persistant problem with RTE Radio that they don't play about with their schedules enough. The basic Radio 1 schedule has been there since Gay Byrne retired and a lot of the programmes date from the mid-1980s still. 2FM until its "Big Station" (March 2000 IIRC) relaunch had not changed really since the previous relaunch in 1988. They tend to be very conservative on both stations...

The Radio 1 schedule is remarkably static the same programmes at the same time all year except bank holidays and Xmas. Whats required is more diversity I'd can Finucane prog shorten Pat Kenny to 60 mins and
start to commision programmes of all types drama. comedy, documentaries. Be more like Radio 4 I guess.

I like the routine and certainty of Radio 1. So thats the end of Marion saying "thank you INDEED!!!!' about twenty times in the hour, Joe is big on the "thank you INDEED"
I like Radio 1 and I don't like changes on it.

Radio 1 is a bit like a comfortable old sock really.

I love listening to it, it's the radio equivalent of a nice steaming mug of cocoa!

Well i think that is more of a prob with the Trib and the Indo and not RTE.

I think it needs to allow 2FM grow and become more RTE One with its listners and let RTE One become more like 2FM as its audience gets older.

    Is there no Radio board?

There is a Music/Radio board in the music section but its all music and no radio! We also need but dont have a Newspaper/Publications board. In fact what we need is a "serious" media discussion board. I shall propose this again....

In fact it's not the fault of the papers,(even if their fact searching is lazy) PR statements from rte state the age of the broadcasters and a year or four is taken off all the time. It's like the time dave fanning had a second 40th birthday party three or four years after the first.

They want to protray that they are young and hip. Much as I dislike marion I get the feeling she is been ditched because of age, If rating were taken into consideration her show would beat ryan T. hands down,

Yes you can argue that he is on 2fm and she is on radio one, but at the end of the day if He was truly Rte's saviour, would his breakfast show not be the top rated in the country.

By the way I think he is a good broadcaster, but I fear that the Carrie Crowley's could happen to him if he's not careful.

What do yu mean by the Carrie Crowleys?....Being pushed into an obscure slot .once a week? and left to rot?.....Hardly likely...

How come that skanger Cahill is getting so much airtime on Morning Ireland?

Good cause an all that but..... I have to wonder if Billy Turdhed was down in SA would he be on MI for 10 mins every morning.....HMMMM ....

While Im at it I think its rich of RTE to be complaining about Dail Depppeties taking a week off at mid term.... Watch Xmas ...RTE will be on autopilot until early Jan..............People in glasshouses sh.....

    Thats enough a dah!

    Dont get me goin

    WOT
    :p

I got a laugh out of "the Carrie Crowleys". It seems that when she first burst upon the scene, RTE TV had her everywhere, doing everything, and I got heartily sick of seeing and hearing her. Maybe that chef's competition show finally did her in. Now it seems she is only on a Sunday morning RTE Radio slot, in which she seems to only interview Englishmen and Englishwomen or foul-mouth Irishmen.

I have heard Ryan Tubridy say that, the story news on that is a complete load of crap
which really means hes is on the move (I guess)
