    Damn, now I KNOW I'm a geek!

When I say uptime, I don't mean your computer (My linux box, by the way, up 37 days and only dawn because of power cuts! W00t!)

I mean your OTHER processor's uptime! Your Brain! How long have you been awake and what was your longest time?

For me, Fridays suck! I mean I'm active from at least Friday 08:00 - 09:30 Saturday Morning beacause of the jobs i do. And that's usually after 4 hours sleep, if that, thie night before.

Also, as for my longest time, I was active about 92 hours.. Was on a trainign course and had to stay alert

My secret for that was Pro Plus!

    What's your secrets?

I was once awake for 172 hours, caffine and stress kept me awake. Doctor told me I should have suffered a breakdown of sorts, but have been a career insomniac for most of my life. Advantage is that no one could use Sleep dep agianst me, disadvantage, all voices, time loss + gain, wakign dreams and looking 10 years older than I am.

I've done 90 hours myself, then slept for at least 30 afterwards :-) Damn Ultimate Soccer Manager! Damn it!

As goes PC's, my beloved P-75 running BeOS 5 was powered on in June and shows no sign of going off any time soon, considering the entire OS is swapped out of RAM and into HDD (haven't used it except to check memory usage).

72 hours (3 full days). That was due to a work emergency, I would never willingly stay up longer than 24 hours.

The longest uptime i've ever managed on a windows box is 2 weeks and 3 days (2k),
Linux box 79 days before a powercut took it out

My longest physical uptime is vague, i remember definitely being awake for 72 hours without any *cough*chemical assiatance, but definitely done longer under the influence, problem is your concept of time gets screwed up so probably 120 or so

    What's your longest up-time?

I'm so dirty minded .... am I the only person to have interpret that in a sexual nature?

anyway... longest wake time was 64 hours ... but I'd be banned if I told you how I did it ;)

I had a hole in my ear drum once.. very painfull .. so was taking anidin extra.. *me thinks thats how its spelt*... to help me seep at night...but its loaded with caffine .... I didn't cop this on untill after 2 sleepless nights....

coffee works during the day... bout 4/5 cups should do the trick.... some people prefare coke.

I stayed up for 48 hours straight finishing my thesis last April/May...

It was horrible.. I was shaking and stuff near the end.. the number of typo's went through the roof.. thank god for spell check.. it was all worth it in the end though..

I remember hearing somewhere that if you stay awake for 2 weeks straight (i think) that you go irreversably clinically insane... dont know how true it is though...

about 36 hours I'd say. Although it could have been longer. I don't ever remember missing 2 nights sleep.

Once went on a 72 hour bender when in college... there were numerous 36 - 48 hours straight sessions due to college projects etc. Since I've joined the "real world", I haven't had the need to do all-nighters yet...

39 hours. Could have gone longer, and had the necessary chemical assistants to do so, but I had to travel the next morning, and sleeping in cars ain't good for your neck.

i stayed awake for around 60 hours once. cant really remember why, but i blacked out a couple of times in the process.

i dont really sleep anyway, only a few hours a night. so i was well conditioned.

I remember once getting up at around 9am doing a nightshift that night, staying up the whole next day, doing another nightshift, leaving work and getting on a plane to Canada, not sleeping the whole fucking way there, getting to the flight steps to my girlfriend's gaff in Toronto and actually completely lacking the necessary motor skills to negotiate them. About 60 hours to completely fuxor me.

I'm not messing it wasn't that I didn't have enough energy - I could walk around and everything - I had just misplaced the part of my brain that did the climbing steps bit. Fucking scary experience, never more than 24 hours without shut-eye since them.

I can't sleep during the day, but I can't stay awake more than 48 hours. A bit of an enigma.
I think I managed 40 hours one time, before falling asleep on a bus. Funny thing is, I'd be shattered if I stayed up for 24 hours, but give me just one hour's sleep, and I'm ready to go again for another 24 hours.

    :)

I become a jibbering wreck after no sleep ... I think the longest I managed was 40 hours [due to being in work for 21.5 hours straight] ... never again!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭Havelock

Um....most people here have normal sleeping patterns? That makes me worry about this whole 36-50+ hours being awake I do on an almost weekly baises. No one else like that? Just not sleep for days at a time, then catch a few hours? anyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,236 ✭✭✭AL][EN

My Sleeping pattern is what you could consider normal Havelock accept when i go on night shift every 8 weeks then my sleeping pattern goes out the window, i usually dont sleep properly for days at a time getting 2 or 3 hours at a time here and there. it takes 2 to 3 weeks for me to sync properly again and then guess what 3 weeks later im back on nights again, its a never ending cycle really im destined for the mad house

As for longest time for staying awake it was for 76 hours once (and only once i might add never again) it was during rag week in college, i had done on occasion 36 hours without sleep again thats to do with coming off night shift and just not sleeping.
