Hey, just thought i'd let everyone know what the deal is with Sky Business Subscriptions. My brothers got a small pub and he's paying €200 per month to sky for their minium package i.e. Sky Sports,Sky News, Sky One,MTV.
These are the only channels he's allowed to show in the pub, the rest i.e Discovery,Uk tv,BBC, and even RTE/TV3/TG4 cannot under any circumstances be shown through Sky Digital. No Sky One Mix or E4+1.
Sky Movies also cannot be shown (though the're not included in the basic package anyway). Premiership plus season ticket was €500 for 40 games or €140 ex VAT per game.
Even the pub channel cannot be shown in public areas.Sky+ is also not an option for Business Subscribers. There is no sky active for sky sports and Sky venue only airs for 30 mins twice a month for the Sky Sports Pub Quiz.
IMRO are the Sky inspecting agents for Pubs and Clubs.
The funny thing is that it costs €200 for a small country pub yet the maximum price for pubs and clubs subscribers (Based on their lisence) is around €300. So the difference between 50 views and 1,000+ viewers is only €100.
I don't think there's any legal alternative to Sky Business for commercial subscribers so its a Sky monopoly!

See its not just us residential customers that are being taken for a ride!

Forgive my cynicism but I find it ironic that a pub should complain about restrictive practice, not excatly bastions of the free market are they :D

Having worked in a pub i have to agree with Tony, do you have any idea how musch profit is in one keg of lager, pubs are very profitable but small country pubs ain't the same as a major city one and on sunday afternoons you would be lucky to get a dozen regulars lined up for PPV matches, i used to head out to watch them before i got sense and got my season ticket!
