I didnt realize at all how much printing my own photos was so decided to check online. When i thought about it, you only print photos you want printed so its not like you pay through the nose for developing 24 pics and only 3 are good.

Cheapest i could find is 19C each for 6 x 4 in prints.

    www.bonusprint.ie

You just upload them and wait (a couple of days i think).

there is also photobox.ie but when i sent them an email pointing out that they were almost twice as expensive as bonusprint i got a shpeel about how they provide quality and that is the reason for the price.
I dont know if i want to try their 'quality' at double the price though.

    Daithi,

I have to thank you for your posts below! I had a load of pics on my machine from various events and holidays over the last year that have just been sitting on my machine and within 5mins, I literally registered my details, downloaded their software and have sent them an order for as you say " the best pics" and no crap ones! What a service and all for only €11 including shipping!!! Very impressed...

    Thats good to hear.
It takes about a week to get the photos.
I got a few that i had not cropped to size beforehand which had white borders that i wasnt happy with.
The rest i cropped in photoshop to 4x6 size and after reading their faq on cropping used the crop button in their software to make sure there would be no borders (it crops any edges off and shows you what the photo will look like oon the print.
These i was very pleased with.
I'm still looking for a cheaper one but cant find one.

Does anyone know of any photo developers in dublin that do cheap digital prints?

    http://www.colab.com/
there is a link on the page for photobynet

    12p sterling for 6x4s

Bonusprint had average reviews though i thought they were excellent apart from a few photos that they messed up the colour matching on.

Colab got great reviews and cheaper too.

what is the print quality like, do they use glossy paper? how do they compare with traditional photo prints?

Quality is indistinguishable from normal prints.

Of course depending on the quality of camera you use ;)

    It is what it's.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 843 ✭✭✭DaithiSurfer

Yep, but your wet film prints also depend on the quality of the camera and the film. Nobody can help you with that part of it.
Believe it or not though i've got 6x4 prints that nobody can tell are digital from as low as 1.5 mp.
A friend has a 1mp camera and says all of his prints are perfect. I havent seen them myself though

I found a review of online digital photo printers here: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews_online_print_services.php

This week I've ordered from both Bonusprint & Photobox.

My order from Photobox was for two sets of passport photos, 2 €1.46 each + Post (5.03 Total)

    My order from Bonusprint was for 211 4x6 @ 19c & 4 8x10 @ €1.50 + Post (€47.89 Total)

I haven't recieved my orders yet but will post back my thoughts when I get them.

I've considered using Spectraphoto but their upload tool isn't great, especially compared to the upload tool that Bonusprint have, Colab have an even better tool and are a bit cheaper but I decided to use Bonusprint because they are Irish(?)

just saw spectra hav lowered their prices if you get over 50 prints, it works out at only 25c each for a 5X7! and i thought bonusprint at 33c was a steal....plus you get free delivery on your first order too. and anyone going through pigsback can earn piggypoints.

    good stuff

I got my orders back from both Photobox and Bonusprint, both of them are actually UK based labs, even though they have Irish websites.

    Photobox, Quality=V.Good Delivery=Quick Price=Good

    Bonusprint, Quality=Good Delivery=OK Price=V.Good

Most of the pictures from Bonusprint were of great quality, except some which ended up a bit too much on the yellow side, especially skintones, also it took over a week for the Bonusprint order to arrive. Of the 210 prints I got I would say only 10 were affected by the yellow bias, otherwise I'm very happy with the colours and the details of the prints.

Photobox, picture quality was very good and delivery was very quick from the UK.

Next time I'm printing I'll give Colab a try....

I saw a new price list for Spectra Photo today through an agent "Kiosk "78b Talbot St. D1. You can get 100 5X7 for Euro 17.99 or 100 6x4 for Euro 14.99. I know it is not online but that is great value for 5X7.

The photos I sent to Bonusprint were posted in Germany (came in one week)...

The last pharmacy at the bottom of O'connel had a 4x6 at 0.20 (24 hours) (the one after Bank of Ireland and the donuts shop). From any media (CD, cards,...). Quality is ok...

or depending on how many your printing http://www.mypix.com/photo-pack-all-inclusive/ieuk_ftc.html and get them for 11c or 9c including shipping.

There are others that price as well.

Talk about resurrecting a 6 year old thread  (IBTL) - I expect online prints are a lot cheaper compared to 2004.

    Discussed here recently: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055163597&highlight=bonusprint

The more you order, the cheaper they get. Lots of places offer free prints for your first order.

http://www.aldiphotos.ie/?WT.z_src=banner&WT.ac=Banner-without-Alt-Tag probably the cheapest at 8c a shot.

They also let you print your photos directly from Facebook which is quicker since you don't have to upload them again.

This is a terrible idea since Facebook resizes and compresses your images once uploaded, so the quality deteriorates dramatically making them useless for print. Spend the time and upload the originals!

Agree with the comments on Aldiphoto - I did some research on this in the past
when I wanted to print 1,400 photos

    http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055299056

& found them to be the best deal overall

regularily use www.bonusprint.ie and have had no problems, they also have a 30% off for about the last 6 months once you load photos via the website with the promotion code and not their client.

Laser is crap for everything except Irish retailers (brick and mortar), do yourself a favor and get a Visa debit or a prepaid Visa or Mastercard.

have used Aldi a few times and found it really good. Very cheap and very quick - we had over 100 pics in 3 days, well packaged so no damage en-route.
We also used their photo album service - we made a 'magazine' album to send abroad - we didn't want anything too heavy or too expensive in case it went missing, so this was ideal for the interim. For the magazine which had about 30 pages and loads of images, 150 photos, p&p it was less than €30 if I remember correctly and we had it 3 days after the order was placed!

Yeah +1 for Aldi good quality, great price and quick delivery. Photobox are cheaper if you use the special offers.
Although -1 for having only Windows versions of their photo software. But F-Spot is available for free for Linux, and there's also Picasa for Linux.

Quick tip.. if you bump a six-year old thread with your first post linking to a website, it rings alarm bells!
