For those who don't know, the Irish Blues Club has gigs in JJs in Aungier St., Dublin every Tuesday.

The website is http://www.irishblues.com/index.html and lists the gigs as well as a lot of local bands. They also operate a mailing list.

JJs also does a rather good Guinness :)

The January gig list is now up on the IBC site.

I assume you noticed that the original post is six years old. :) In fairness to JJ's, they have an open mic night on the first Tuesday of every month. Everyone is welcome, and there's a possibility of getting a few gigs as a result. I have been to a fair few of these open nights, and the "same old heads" are there most weeks. If no "new heads" turn up to jam and make themselves known to the public then you cant blame JJ's or the Irish Blues Club for that. As for it catering for blues "outside the pale"..... if there was enough interest around the country, I'm sure another JJ's could be set up in Cork or Galway ect with similar facilities for recognition. I agree that the word "Irish" is possibly a misnomer. Maybe if they were lobbied by an interested pub proprietor from outside Dublin, along with lots of interested punters then things might be different. Besides, what's to stop every county in Ireland setting up it's own blues club ? All it takes is enough interest and enthusiasm.

My name is Patrick Wall, a blues singer from Ireland and I am amazed with the lack of blues music done here!! There is no support whatsoever and I feel so alone as a blues singer and blues based country singer here. There are no promoters interested in what is great and saleable music. I have recorded 4 CDs and they have been very successful but to take blues to the next level is not easy.

My version of country music is very different to the country and Irish genre which is popular and promoted. Artists like Moon Mullican and Jerry Lee Lewis remain unknown entities here as well. My Youtube site is:

I'd be very interested in seeing more places where blues singers and musicians can play and sing and also more promoters who can help take album projects to the next level. Everyone has responded positively to this great hidden music.

This is an interesting topic, but the thread is nine years old. You may get more responses by starting a new thread. :)

The Tuesday nights are no more.....they finished in September .I presume through lack of interest or to use that awful phrase the recession.
Sad as I think they ran for about 15 years.
