Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the N64 are great fun and simple to play as multiplayer games. Unreal Tournament is also good on the dreamcast.

What are the best equivalents on XBOx/PS2? And are they any good with computer opponents instead of real people?

It was soobvious that Halo on the pc wasnt going to have the impact that the XBox version had...just when Halo came out on the PC I had completed Halo on the XBox on Legendary and on Normal...The Co-OP was the best i have ever seen but i just dont think that a new rocket launcher on the jeep is going to sell a million copies...Halo (XBox) better controls than most pc games as well...

Counter Strike is good...especially all those FY_ maps...but to be honest i have played it to death...

    Whats next...???

PC controls worse.. *cough* *splutter* yeah right.

For consoles Halo's multiplayer is by far the best.

For the PC you may well enjoy Counter Strike. I've played it to death though so I now generally play The Specialists.

    Battlefield is also absolutely excellent.

Give RTCW on the Xbox a go its got co-op and becomes the cats whiskers when played online. Same with Unreal Championship (Xbox) but its ****e in single player. Id stay well away from buying FPS for the PS2 due to the Real bad analogue stick placement which after about 10 mins craps your hands.

Without doubt the best multiplayer game is Counter-Strike, what other game has been around 3/4 years and still be the most popular. :D:D:D
    Its genius.

Haha you looney.. The controls on the PC version of HALO are the only genuine improvement over the Xbox version. The xbox version was deadly, and was even better on the PC purely because of the controls. Dont mention frame rates or I will cut someone.

Halo on the PC would have been something 3 years ago, now it is mediocre with terrible gameplay - duh can't think of anything to do, put in more bad guys and make them really easy to kill.

Multiplayer Halo was even worse, it cannot even compare to quake 2 !

I think the best multiplayer out at the moment is Call of Duty !

The replay of you last death from your nme's POV is cool and is a good deterrent for cheats !

halo on console by a mile

its a lot tought to choose a winner for the pc, counter strike maybe cos it has been there for years, but battlefield is cool and shoot me all you like i do like a bit of medal of honor!!!

First of all let me reach out and Bitch slap ANYONE who suggests that console controls for FPS's are better than pc. You are very mistaken. period.

As for good multiplayer FPS. I like close combat so i like Battlefield on maps like Berlin and Stalingrad, or on bigger maps when 2 very close flags are being contested (like the centre 2 islands on invasion of the philippeans). Otherwise it can be tedious travelling for a bit and getting killed stupidly or TK'd or just walking on a grenade.

I used to Love MOHAA multiplayer, Stalingrad map was awesome. Might get into Call of Duty over Christmas to see if its as good.

Vietcong is an underated GEM. Anyone who has this game give it a try. NVA Base on CTF is really excellent.

Didn't like Enemy Territory, might have been the games I was in but just found it clustered and confusing!

Timesplitters 2 on the cube is a great multi player game.
Played halo on the xbox was ok but there is no bots
What i am playing recently is the original quake in coop mode. still a classic game. the shambler is still on of my favourite monsters in a game.

    FFS!!!!!!!!!!!

The controls on the xbox for Halo are so good.....come on....a fully manageable FPS on a console...i can genuinely think of only Halo......

The graphics in the PC version are so different....I ran it on a f***ing Radeon 98 pro all in wonder and the Elites shield was a solid blurry mess (graphics suitably high)....whereas the Xbox version has a translucent one...simple little things....

CS is good...I dont debate that but in all fairness it does need a solid replacement...

Battlefield rules...well Desert Combat does anyway....

MOHAA is really good multiplayer....COD is not that good MP.....the game is such an obvious (but successful and enjoyable) attempt at a jump on the WW2 FPS bandwagon that it just doesnt have any impact.....

I just found the mouse controls on the pc version of Halo to be crap...thats all.....i have pretty much the best mouse in existence (Microsoft intellimouse optical wireless explorer v2) and it just didnt react the way it should and its the same with 2 or 3 other mice i tried...

    Sorry about all the ranting....

Definitely the FPS i have had the most fun playing was Doom2 back on a P120 with 16mb's of ram....ran doom in a solid 420x280 or something like that....thats just nostalgia....

Quake3 at the height of its success was really enjoyable too....
