Viewing card not recognised

I purchased a panasonic dsb30 box recently which came with a new type card (has picture of house on it) but it doesn't seem to recognise the card - wont even show card number in system details. The system had been powered off for a long period of time before I purchased so I tried a forced software upgrade but it didnt change the version maybe its up to date already - version 3.1.a.6?

Is it possible the card is deactivated or is my box faulty?

    Any ideas suggestions?

The card i think has to be married to the box

    Services -401 -select.

new install - select .and that should do it

If the card number is not showing up on the system details screen then either the card is faulty or the card reader is damaged. If you can get another card, put that into the box and see if the number is showing up. It will not do any damage to the card or the box to try this. Hopefully it is a faulty card as replacing the card reader will be more difficult than replacing the card.

Also, make sure the card is in the right slot. Could be as easy as that!!!

Worst fears unfortunately reader is faulty. Thanks for the help.

If anyone has a broken panasonic digibox that I can salvage a reader from let me know!!!

as far as i know the readers in all digiboxes are the same so you don't need a panasonic one. actually you don't need any, there are 2 readers in the box one for the sky card the other unused.unsolder them take the bottom one off and replace with the top one. you can remove the circuit board that's attached as well and discard it.

Annoying that. Have you tried cleaning the card reader with a cotton bud & some alcohol?

Alternatively bmg's suggestion should work. Worth a cleaning job first though - surprising how dirty these things can get.

    Hi towbar

If you don't use it for sky you still have a very basic free to view reciver.

Thanks for the advice, found the problem - when the box was shipped to me (bought on ebay from a Norweigan) the guy shipped it with card in the slot. I opened the box and it seems that the legs holding reader on motherboard are broke. Will have a go at repair some night I have a steady hand!!! At least the FTV card worked in another box and shoes the C4 C5 and ITV so I haven't lost out completely and yes it still works as an FTA receiver.

Interesting that any reader will work in any box.

bmg's plan worked the sky card reader had broken pins but it was as easy as dismantle it all desolder the top reader and resolder onto the motherboard. Throw away all the left over bits and it worked perfect. Of course it gets interesting if you put the sky card in the wrong slot now!!!!!

    Thanks again for the advice.
