Vaggabond, I saw you posted a reply to someone with this problem on sigames and you thought it was something to do with windows 2003 but I am using windows ME and am having this problem.

I can hear the CD running and my computer loads for a few seconds. I press ctrl alt del and I can see cm0304 but that goes when the computer stops loading. I am using Windows ME with 256megs RAM.

Any idea's how to sort this out? I am desperate to play the game.

One last thing, i can use the editor no problem.

I hate to point out the obvious, but did you install the patch??

I'd also like to point out, that come 1pm today, I was heading into Smyths to buy the game, but seeing as I have a similar spec as you (Windows ME, 194MB Ram) I'm putitng it off till you manage to get your problem fixed!

I put it in my CD rewriter drive and it works but I haven't tried it in the correct drive since.

It sounds like a problem with the copy protection not recognising the cd.

i hate to say i told you so, but i told you so
Big al - I know CM always contains bugs but SI have ran a few seasons of a network game with all the lads in the office (and get paid for it ) and they had little to no problems. Also, the first patch has already been released

I don't know if this is the same problem that you are having but I took this from the SI games support forum:
Users experiencing a black screen on startup

Anyone who is having this problem should try the following:

The problem is, I believe, somewhere up from the c:\program files\eidos\cm 03-04 dir you have a data folder. The exe is looking in there for the files which obviously dont exist. In the cd version this isnt a problem

heres what I suggest you do

    Uninstall the game
    Install to c:\cm03-04\

Try running now. As long as you dont have a c:\data folder it should work out for you

his problem was the copy protection not seeing the game, which he sorted out by changing the cd drive..

If you had the black screen problem, the game would start, but the screen goes totally black - basically because for any number of reasons it cant see the data folder that has all the xml, pics and other bits and peices :)

If I have the cd-rom in the cdr drive will it run slower?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

    No.

It only checks the CD when launching the game, so if you have an older cd-r drive, it will take slightly longer to launch the game (this is due to read speeds on your drive). All the data is located on your HDD, therefore a slower CD drove shouldnt affect the gameplay

the problem with some cd rom drives not working has been fixed BTW

its our wonderful *cough* copy protection software, and said software has been updated

Do you own a legit copy of the game?
If you don't well we don't want to hear about where you got a pirate copy from. You know how it is.

I had the same problem describred by the original poster. I installed it on Friday, installed the latest enhancement pack, started a season no problem, happily playing away. I left the cd in the same drive it was installed from, and when i tried starting up CM03/04 on Saturday- nothing. I checked the processes in Task Manager and it said the exe was running(running win xp pro). I then went to restart the machine and it comes up InCDexe is not responding(part of Nero express), though nothing of it and booted back up. Tried again and nothing, went top restart again, InCDexe not responding again. Vaggabond, I remembered you posting on the Games forum about CM4 originally having problems with copy protection and nero so i booted my machine up once more, went into Msconfig and disabled the Incdexe at startup, rebooted the machine and hey presto, CM03/04 was back running. Maybe QA could take a look at this Vaggabond?

copy protection does not like CD copying software..

    close/disable nero before starting CM
