    Hello

I would like to ask You about possibility of working in Ireland in IT when I am person from outside Ireland. I live in Poland. For some time I have thought about working abroad. I have checked a few ads lately, and I know that there there is need for work permit. I check it also and it`s rather hard matter, but is`s diffrerent story. My question is: If employers employ people from others countries at all, or not (in IT of course).
If not I will have to think about something else;)

    Regards,
    sb

They will hire, but I don't know how many are hiring at the moment (there are unemployed Irish IT people). Most will be strict about a work permit, others won't. However, come 1 May 2004, you won't need a work permit to work in Ireland (you would need one in some other EU countries).

In you calculations, remember Irish prices are about 4 times Polish prices.

what kinda job exactly are u looking for IT is very broad?
last place i worked we had a guy from the ukraine who was a lead programmer
    guy was a genius
for the most part they wont go through the hassle
unless you have some good qualifications or some good
    experience
if you are just out of college then m8 i dont think you will
have much hope, if however you have 5 or 6 years good
coding experience then you could get lucky

go to www.monster.ie and see whats available

    Thank You for answers
Yes, You are right, IT is very broad. I have not written about it.
I have experience in c/c++,java programming; java technologies; I worked for 10m as network administrator but I am good friend with IT for 6 years:)
I think that There is a job but in programmming mainly, I also know that there is a lot of good Irish programmers; and employers want geniuses:), so it may be difficult to get job in Ireland now, maybe after 1st May, 2004 will be easier.

    thanks

Multilingual is probably where you'll get in. A massive amount of jobs on offer at the moment requre an I.T. qualification and fluency in another language, something that 99% of Irish IT grads don't have.

A lot of them are tech support, but if you persevere and check the job sites every day, you'll notice programming, sys admin, field tech jobs appearing which require a language. :)

    Scan,
I'm American and I've been working in Ireland for 3 years now.
Back then things were booming and although it took me a while to get a job I got a work permit quite easily.
Things now seem very different. I notice most jobs state that they wont consider non-EU nationals.
Now I'm not saying that you will not succeed, but it will probably be difficult.
That being said, I wasn't in programming but NT Admin (now a *nix convert) when I came over.
I would think that EU companies would now be looking to open up in Poland once they come into the EU. Seems like there would be alot of jobs then. Maybe not?
