    Currently looking at:
    Friday 23rd - Sun 25th January
    Fri 30th January - Sunday 1st February
    or
    Friday 6th - Sunday 8th February.
Possible alternatives are the weekends before and after that, though the weekend before means I'll miss WarpCon in Cork

again, no under 18s allowed due to college policy.

Can't see a problem with those dates atm, but something might come up closer to the dates - I can't confirm now or say which would be better. I'll get back to you around start of january.

    Grand.

    I'll look into it tomorrow.

Also, I'll have to enforce the "Pay the money at least a week in advance" thing again.
Mainly for CompSoc members / students.
toying with the idea of increasing the cost to €30 so we can get a server.
    I'll see.
Capacity should be around the 40 mark at elast, if not more.
We can take 46 machines at the moment. Should be more, but the Unex 24-port died and I haven't had a chance to test it's ports at all in a controlled environment.
If anyone can bring a swithc or two with them it'd be appreciated :)

Also, 6-way surge protectors were in Lidl or Aldi recently for €15.
Very good strips, myself and Danny have one each.

Could someone tell me if the weekend of 31st jan - 2nd Feb is a bank holiday?

And would a 4-day lan be a bit expensive on people staying in accomodation?
I'm sure the native component wouldn't mind offering their couches.... :)

    Friday 23rd - Sun 25th January
    Fri 30th January - Sunday 1st February
    or
    Friday 6th - Sunday 8th February.
Any of these would suit as the exams should be in the middle. No dates for them yet but is generally around the 12-23 i hope.

Won't mind too much but had better be a good server.

I believe the leaving cert is in June. The LAN isn't. I fail to see the problem.

Ok, it's going to be Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th January 2004, more than likely in the Bank Of Ireland Theatre (the venue we were in over the summer).
Cost to be confirmed, but I want it paid into the specified account 2 weeks in advance to get you place.
I have switch capacity for 44 people, if people bring more switches that can be raised up to about 60 people, plus space for a few servers.
There will be about 10 spaces set aside for NUIG CompSoc members.
    Times: 9am to 11pm
This LAN should raise enough to get started on putting together the first proper GalwayLAN server.
Hopefully will have blackle up and running again (have to get it sorted for the house anyways) for IRCd purposes.
I will be running Quake3 competitions (suggestions as to exactly what form ye want?), QuakeWorld compos - probably duels, a Halo Tournament (Teams or deathmatch?), and Counterstrike.
Anyone have any other suggestions for large-scale competitions?
Prizes will be in the usual GalwayLAN tradition.

Dates are grand with me, I guess...

I would also like to reconmend an Official Beer for GalwayLAN!

I trust you'll agree on its GalwayLAN sponcerability?
A beer that captivates what GalwayLAN is truly about!

ok, this is going to sound extremely stupid to all of ye, but please remember that this idea is completely for fun, not competitionn. Well here goes, how about a Fifa 2003/2004 tourni? I'll run while I'm still alive :)

Pro Evolution Soccer 3 is the best soccer game ever.

Think I'm going to OD on LAN's for the year, woohoo!

Is cash into the hand good, or are you going to force everyone to put it in the account just to avoid having it around to spend.

Paid into the bank account, 2 weeks in advance.
I want an email with confirmation of payment, your NIC's MAC address* and your desired hostname (ideally your nick, all lowercase, pure alphanumeric - no symbols eg. deathreaper, drake, raven etc.)

This will not be implemented at this LAN, but there are plans to make IP and hostname assignment a far smoother process, involving little or no effort by ye lot, no having to remember IPs, only hostnames (hence use of the nicks) for FTPing stuff.
The only catch is I need everyone to give me their MAC address and hostname so I can enter them in the server tables.

    * under 2k, WindowsKey+R, type "cmd" and hit return, then type "ipconfig /all" into the command prompt. Write down the "Physical address", should look something like this: 00-60-94-B8-7F-A6
