    There is a good article by Karlin in to-days IT business section on a recent IDC survey. Some highlights include

    high speed take up continues to be slow and one in five firms with Net connections do not even understand what broadband is...

    Another interesting point is:

    despite increase focus on the need for greater competition in the telecommunications market the vast majority of Government organizations (91%) now use Eircom as their provider. A year ago the total was 67%.

    This would suggest the Dermot is saying one thing while the Govt is doing another.

    The article covers Esat's complaint about the Wholesale DSL rate, and the comparison with the North mentioned in other threads. There is a great quote from Rory Ardagh about 'broadband blight'. No doubt if it was spud blight then no doubt we'd be getting more action from Bertie and Co.
