Just wondering, if money was no object what would be the ideal dish(es), receiver(es)/ PC card, cable, LNB's, motors etc...

Ive seen seen 3m dishes on UK sites and wonder if there is any use for a dish that size in europe.

Your comments here would be great

I would suggest that you spend some time deciding on what you want to view. ie. movies/footy/particular foreign channels/etc,

checkout www.lyngsat.com to see what channels are available when pointing in various directions..

A TV viewing guide for most european packages is available here

Your probably after getting the lidl system (?) which is analog - theres very little available on analog thats worthwhile so you may want to consider investing in a digital receiver/satellite pc card.

if money was no object i'd get:

5m offset ku band dish capable of 60e to 60w which would get every signal in the range perfectly

3m prime focus for c-band reception

    2* echostar7000 receiver
2* coship receivers to scan for feeds if i got bored

and x amount of official cards but since i've got some much dough to work with, i let nasa and the cia hack every encryption know to man for me.

now all i need to do is find anna nicole smith and i'm laughing or that onasis bird.either one of them would be fine

Nice setup there Mr.M if ever you get the money!

I'd like, along with what you suggested, one of those "Toroidal" dishes that can have multiple LNB's and has 2 reflectors. Can't find a link atm.

/me awaits for chernobyl to add his choices! :)

    Thanks for the reply lads.

Another question. Is it poosible to get one receiver for a motorised dish that will pick up all the FTA and sky digital also

If so, which receivers can do this?

Again, your help would be great

not at the moment m8 but there might be a way sometime soon when the "dragon cam" is released.if the rumours about it are right, you would be able to, for the first time ever, watch sky without a digibox.

but at the mo, there only rumours.

    Thanks mate.

Can you elaborate a bit on your first post, you mentioned ku band ad C band, what is the difference?

also, from what ive read there doesnt seem to be a need for a dish any larger than 1.2 meters in europe. Is this right? if no then what could you pick up with a5m dish?

finally, will the ecostar 7000 pick up everything available in europe?

    Thanks again for any advice

ku-band is the frequency range in which most channels in europe range like sky+canal etc,etc and they use frequencies between 10.700 and 12.750 and also they use horizontal and vertical polarity.c-band is more popular in africa, middle east and asia as its still used by a lot of providers.c-band also has a much lower frequency range(somewhere between 3.000 and 5.000 but someone can correct me if i'm wrong) and also the channels that are usually broadcast on c-band are on usually stronger beams than that of ku band frequncies so that why a 3m dish would be sufficent for that.

if you were to try and get a c-band channel on a normal satellite receiver you couldn't because there is another difference between ku band and c band and thats the polarity that they use.they use L and R(left&right) as opposed to H and V for ku band.also the dish which you would use for picking up c band is a far more circular than an offset dish.and one last way you could tell the difference between an offset dish(used for k band) and prime focus(used for c band) is where the arms of the dish hold the lnbs.when you look at the lnb on an offset dish the lnb is more down on the lnb where as the prime focus hold the lnb usually in the middle of the dish.

its true that we can pick up most signals in europe on 1.2m dish but if money was no object you'd like to make sure that you'd be able to pick up every single sat that you're able to see and to do that you'd need a 5m dish or possibly a small bit larger.so what satellites am i on abouts - well theres NTV Russia on 36e and there ART & Showtime packages on 7w both of which would require at least a 5m dish.

the echostar is probably the best receiver at the mo as it has everything in it.HD so you can record whatever you like as you watch another channel.the best and strongest motor around and the best software aswell so that would be my personal choice of receiver.

any more questions, just ask m8

I think ive got most of it straight in my head now. One more query though...

With an ecostar 3600/7000 would you be able to pick up the sky FTA channels like BBC etc? (im assuming you need a card for this)

And another... do you know of any good movie channels thats are out there... I heard about filnet and premier? any others worth checking out?

thanks again for the great advice M

yep you'd be able to pick up all the FTA beeb channels on 28e with any digital receiver without the need for any card

there are loads of film channels available but most of them have switched over to version2 cards which, are unhacked(publically atleast) for the time being.but if you've got a bit of cash to play with(the more the merrier) you can get official cards(or unoffical) for whatever you want.i've got a couple allready myself and i'm on the lookout for another couple before christmas.

Yes, I was indeed with EON well over a year ago. I joined and got 5 months access and a free DVB card! It was on Astra obviously at that time, though the only useful thing on it was 3rd party software called FFM ;) I didn't renew the service though as they had changed the way they operated, and moved to Netsystem, who sent me another free DVB card! They were average though cancelled after my first month due to speeds sometimes slower than dialup and p2p sharing was blocked.

Not sure what size dish is needed for 7°E, maybe an 80cm would do. I have no intentions of rejoining EON or Netsystem. It's a pity Digiweb 2way services are so expensive, as I would like to give that a go.

FFM is back as far as i know, but I dont bother with it anymore, I just use the DSL service. Its pretty good i often get up to 200 - 300kb/sec download off a good http/ftp server.Works good in p2p also.

Ah well I think i'll stick to it, i can't stand dial up speeds anymore
