Activation required for NEW ftv cards

    Hi all,

This maybe been answered on another thread but I could not find an answer to the questions I am about to ask.

I ordered a new ftv card from freeview and gave them the english postcode, irish cr card and an english telephone number with no problems.
They confirmed the order, gave me a reference number and said to call back when I receive the card.

    Questions:

    - Has anyone else done this
    - Do you need to call them back to activate the new card
    - If you do call back what do they need you to do
    - Does the card have to be activated in a sky box in the UK
    - By giving them a telephone number with the order will that number be linked to the card
    - Has anyone managed to use a new card without calling them.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Also I ordered the card yesterday and it arrived to my contact in the UK today, not bad service.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just to clarify, when I mention freeview I am refering to

www.free2view.tv and the ftv cards at £ 23.50 and not the freeview service in the UK

As u ordered a new card they may just want u to give then the serial no of the box when u get ur card but when it arrives and works who cares. If it doesn't just give them a ring as per normal.

    Hi guys,

I am referring to a new card, I selected option 3 when I rang free2view and got onto the sales people and order a brand new card.

I got my UK contact to fax me the terms & conditions and it doesn't mention anything about being connect to the telephone line.

Any idea how they would activate a card without being connected to the telephone line ??

spot on, my box is not and never has been connected to a phone line,

there is some confusion regarding "new" cards and "new updated cards".
If you had an old FTV card and just got the updated one you do not need to get it activated - just put it in the box and it activates automatically. But, as in this case, you never had a card before and buy a new one you have to call them to get it activated once you put it in your sky box. A number of people on these boards have said they did this and it worked ok. I think they disguised the number they called from so they would not know it was an Irish number. I belive you just give them the UK address the card was sent to over the phone and they activate it no problem
Let us all know how you get on as I am about to order one of these new cards.

Card is being posted over today so i should have it by Monday. I will report on how i get on next week.

Thanks again for all your assistance.

    - Has anyone else done this
    Yes - I have

    - Do you need to call them back to activate the new card
    Yes

    - If you do call back what do they need you to do
I called them from my Irish phone they asked me a couple of questions (type of box, Serial no...). After a couple of hours all channels were working.

Does it matter that the box was bought over here when giving serial number details etc..

Sandymac was your box purchased from sky ireland ??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 141 ✭✭SEAMUSD

as far as I know if your box was purchased via SKY Ireland there is no way you are going to get a card from them (back to the uk address thingy again) it WILL actually work in the box as stated by someone else but you will lose Irish channels. if you have a subscription card aswell you are going to have to keep swapping them about

Whats the story with paying with an irish credit card guys though, don't ye think this is a bit dodgy?

Plenty of people have. Obviously they have to be delivered to a UK address but where the digibox was acquired doesn't matter.

Nothing to do with the FTV card - you lose RTE if you have a subscription less than the Family Pack. If you do have Family Pack or higher you obviously can't watch RTE if you've pulled your Irish subscription card out of the box. Put the subscription card back in and RTE may be viewed. Having an FTV card or not having an FTV card is nothing to do with it.

This one's actually correct. It's always been so.

Paid with a Belgian CC I'll let you know how things go. As it is going to a pals house in the UK I could be living in the UK for a while and kept my Belgian CC active!!!.
As our good friend SEAMUSD said they really only want your cash!!! :):):)

If using the Irish credit card do they look for your billing address with that card i.e. your irsh address?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Pmac3

I paid with a Irish CC and no problem. My Brother in-law sent me the card and all is working. I also bought 3 more new cards, got them today rang free2view, they told me they where switching on the card and I should have full viewing with in 24 hrs, I am waiting to see what will happen and will let you know.

When you rang free2view to activate the new card (no a replacement card) what questions if any did they ask you ??

Having recently got a NEW FTV card (not a replacement one) I thought I would outline the steps involved.

    Ordered the card over the phone - 141 00 44 870 054 1800

Got it posted to UK address. Make sure you have the POSTCODE correct.

NEW cards need to be activated MANUALLY (and married to *your* Sky box) before you can receive ITV, C4 & C5.

    To activate card call 141 00 44 870 0500 744

This is where you have to keep your nerve! I was asked where I was calling from as there was an echo on the line that usually indicated a call from overseas. Also the operator said that my number was not showing up (the importance of the 141 at the start of the phone number). I just said that echoes are not my problem, not is the fact that the number was not showing up.

You will be asked for the new FTV card number, the digibox serial number and software version.

Card will be activated within a few hours.

Note: channels 101 - 105 will be assigned to the regional stations based on the postcode linked to the FTV card. So if you give a Scottish postcode you will get BBC Scotland, if you give a Welsh postcode you will get BBC Wales on 101 & 102. Generally not a problem but for Welsh postcode you will get S4C in Welsh!!! You can of course get regular C4 further down the EPG. So if you have a variety of UK addresses to get your card sent to decide what regional channels you want assigned to 101-105.

    Gash,

Did they ask you to supply a phone number at all?

I have two cards en route and want to be fully prepared any questions.

    Thanks,

Umm it could also indicate a call on a mobile with dodgy signal
Also the operator said that my number was not showing up (the importance of the 141 at the start of the phone number).

In some rural backwaters Caller ID still (AFIK) isint working

Given that the new FTV scheme is making someone a lot of money (it used only cost the Beeb £12 per card when they were running it) I doubt theyre too fussed actually (even if they pretend otherwide)

    Hi all,

Well I got the new ftv card and put it into my digibox here in Ireland. It initially said that the card was not authorised and to contact your broadcaster, which made sense since free2view have to activate new cards by phoning them.

I called free2view gave them a reference number and the lady on the phone said that it was activated and would take up to 24 hours to receive the channels due to the satellite being busy (thats what she said). I asked if i didn't receive all the channels what was I to do, she said ring back and they could send a signal to the box but that it doesn't usually happen and that the channels will appear.

When I went back into the room low and behold I had all the BBC channels BUT not ITV or CH4 or CH5.

    bbc 1 is on 101
    bbc 2 on 103
I have bbc3 and 4 and bbc news (the lot of them)

The order goes 101 for bbc 1, 102 for bbc2 and then 106 for sky one.

The digibox is not connected to any phone line.

Could it know that the digibox is in Ireland thus allowing the free to view BBC channels only?? or DOES it have to be married to a UK digibox and then send the card to here. Even though I thought the other channels would eventually appear considering bbc1 and 2 are on 101 and 102.

    Has anyone had this problem??

Can someone give me the settings for adding ITV, Ch4 and CH5 manually.

    Any suggestions ??

The lady on the phone was correct in a manner. It does take time for the channels to come through. Not sure about the satellite being busy . Chances are that they will all arrive on the EPG later today.

    Patience...:D

Well I got my new ftv card activated yesterday.

Initially it just had BBC1 and 2 then sky one on 106.

My contact in the UK rang for me and got the card married to the box.

Meanwhile I had lef the box on 101 BBC 1 London.

About an hour after the call I checked by pressing select and doing a search and scann.

The box had stayed on BBC 1 london but now said it was on 944 and when I went up to 101 it had the BBC region from where the card was ordered and it had itv and ch4 and five working perfect.

That all took about an hour :)

Satelite mustn't have been very busy :D

/ i take it satellite being busy is a euphomism for the change over is in the queue, yours will be done when we sent the next batch of signals down to boxes

Did you get the card marred to a UK digibox or to your one in Ireland ??

I suppose patience is the key here ... I shall leave it for another few hours and see what happens.

Does anyone know the frequency etc to manually add the channels ITV, CH4 and Ch5

Most of us here would have married their cards to their Irish boxes.

I married it to a second hand box that I got on qxl which had an old p1 card originally.
I had married my irish sub to this box for a while also.
    That doesn't matter.

    Problem Solved..

The person that said she activated the card on Tuesday (the satellite is busy lady) didn't actually activate the card correctly.

Rang last night, gave them the version number and serial number and within 15 minutes I received the channels.

    Thanks everyone for their advise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭Rizzo the Rat

mburke - when you rang last night did you disguise your telephone number? did they ask for your address or telephone number?
My card is due next week from the UK.
    Thanks

When I rang I put 141 in front of the number.

They asked me to confirm my address and then asked for details regards the system.
Make sure your post code is correct for the address you are giving.

They did ask for my telephone number originally so I gave them one, a uk one. But as you have seen in this thread you don't need to have a telephone number or need to give them one. Just have a good reason made up before hand for why you don't have one.
