RTE 9pm news had a piece about Fine Gael's new ripoff site, but while they were presenting the piece the background image was that of ripoffireland.org! With Mary Harney (the ad campaign encouraging people to shop around) and Enda Kenny on the offensive hopefully it will make some impact on things.

Nearly wet myself when I saw my website behind brian dobson when he was reporting on the Fine Gael website. Serves them right for jumping on the ripoffireland bandwagon.

Nothing wrong with them jumping on the bandwagon as long as RipOffIreland takes maximum advantage of it. Embarassing the bandwagon jumpers into the bargain should be seen as a bonus.

    Good luck,

I agree that the more websites like ripoffireland.org there are the better but how many of you think that Fine Gael are in it for anything other than votes. If in the process they actually get something positive done than all the better but more than likely it will just be another attempt at winning votes.

Of course Fine Gael aren't in it for anything but, votes.

It is a political party, after all. Enjoy the publicity chaps, would be what I'd say.

Wise man say , "There's no such thing as bad publicity".

Of course they're in it for the votes LFCFan, that's what politics is all about. Fine Gael just aren't very good at it, so if they're getting something wrong, take them up on it publically (and loudly). If they're not, what's to complain about? And do I need to point out that if they're not, you should be backing them publically (and loudly)? They jumped on your bandwagon, boo hoo. Now jump on theirs.

It's not my bandwagon. It's the people of Irelands bandwagon. The people who are being ripped off. If their website turns out to be something positive then I will of course support it. I didn't create ripoffireland for personal gain. I created it because someone had to and it might as well have been me.

    LFCFan,

Fine Gael, have Ripped-OFF your website, If I was you I would complain to RTE NEWS now. Insist that they clarify 'live on air' that they mistakenly showed your website, and that Fine Gael should be asked to explain why they feel they can just put up another website that is practically a carbon copy of yours ?.. are there not copyright laws protecting your [ Strictly 'Non-Political' Website! ]

Phone RTE now. I would. That type of political interferance is the last thing your 'independent' already established website needs.

We've already sent a mail to RTE to ask them why they used my website. No answer yet.

The more publicity the better, even if it means some friction with Fine Gael and rte. People should get more emotive about the whole rip-off concept, a bit of rivalry between sites would be a topical issue (eventhjough the Fine Gael site doesn't really compare.).

They may be in it for the votes but at least there in it, we need more ppl to draw attention to these problems if we want the government to do something about it, if less ppl know that there been ripped off then the government don't have to do anything about.

It is sort of "content free" and "functionality free".
They would want to populate it with some stuff pretty quickly if they are to gain any credibility. Why don't Ripoff Ireland approach FG asking them to provide a link to your site and to this Board (they don't seem likely to create their own Board after all.)

Their response will be a good test of whether they are fighting the rip off or actually part of it!

Nah! I've nothing against other sites like mine. I'm not doing it for personal gain. The more sites the merrier. It's when politicians start sites though that piss me off because there is always another reason for Political parties to do something. Hopefully they will prove me wrong and some good will come out of the site but who here thinks that will happen?

Received a card from Fine Gael in the post this morning. Stating:-
FOR THE GOOD OF YOUR BUSINESS LOG ON TO WWW.RIPOFF.IE

Interesting considering that I am a well known 'Anti' Fine Gael citizen, and the fact that I retired from business many years ago. I would have posted the complete card which accuses "government inaction on the insurance crisis is crippling small Irish business" ?.. but I do not know how to post the card on to this thread.

Others, must have received the same card, maybe someone would post it.

If RTE ignore you put in an official complaint to comreg, RTE have made a strong inference that your organisation is affiliated with one political party when it is not. Insist on a public retraction.
Create as much stink as you can, a great way to get free publicity.
