    Hey,

Was there two months only for a day mind. My only advice is to definately go to St Peters Basilica, you don't have to be very holy to be absolutely amazed by it. Its just such an extrodinary building.

Also get used to the subway(underground) it has stops on it for most of the main sites, it can get quite busy but it makes travelling around Rome so much easier. You can get tickets for it from the tabaconists(small little shops that sell tabacco only, I thought they were the same as newsagents or something along those lines but I was wrong) downstairs in the Termini(main train station in Rome). AFAIR you can get one day tickets and that. You stamp your ticket passing the barrior and needn't worry about it for the rest of the day, hopping on and off the train. They also have automatic machines nearer the barrier before you get on the train. On most of the automatic machines there are English instructions which makes everything a hell of a lot easier. There are two types of automatic machines the nice new ones (these are for inter city tickets) and the shabby old looking ones for subway tickets. Use these whenever possible, italians can get a bit odd when you start talking in english to them.

hmm not sure if there is anything else I can tell you. Oh yeah taxis can cost you a fortune so if at all possible try and stay away from them. You can buy 1, 2, 3 or 5 day tickets for the buses. You just stamp these *once* when you get on the bus first (there is a machine inside them to do this, the driver has nothing to do with the whole procedure) and keep it with you till the your number of days is up.

Ask your hotel for the names of local restaurants they are often alot cheaper than the ones in touristy areas and the standard of food is often of a higher quality.

    Hope this helps,
    Happy travelling,
    A.
