The Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan is to sign regulations to allow gardaí to demand a breath test from motorists whom they suspect of committing a number of road traffic offences, such as double parking or driving a vehicle with a faulty indicator.

Mr Brennan said the regulations, promised on several occasions by the Government, would be signed into law in the coming weeks.

He will launch this year's National Safety Council anti-drink driving campaign tomorrow.

Turn off your fog lights then. That's a violation :D

Why they just don't make random testing available is beyond me, rather than having to make up excuses to test someone.

there will be full random testing introduced next year.
this is probably a sort of 'trial run'.

Full random testing requires new legislation to be passed first, its in the pipeline according to Seamus Brennan who was interviewed by George Hook this evening.

As I said he was interviewed on the Radio by George Hook so there is no press release that I am aware of. To quote him "Full random testing WILL come into effect next year once the appropriate legislation has been passed"
