Lack of connections on NTL Box

I've recently switched to NTL from SKY and I'm quite peeved at the lack of connections on the NTL box. All thats there is 1 scart, 1 coaxial and 1 telephone socket.
I have all my gear for surround sound but unfortunately my TV only has 2 scarts but does not have an audio output so I'm trying to work out if its possible to get NTL to go surround sound, otherwise my gear is rendered useless (apart from watching dvd's)
Has anyone out there got around this ?
I'm wondering if I can get around it by using a scart splitter and a scart-2-phono adapter.
ie run the scart from NTL box to splitter input, (splitter has 1 input - 2 outputs)
scart from splitter output 1 into scart TV
putting the scart-2-phono adapter in splitter output 2
phono leads from scart-2-phono into back of amp
    Will this work ??
The scart from NTL comes split as standard - will splitting it further muck up the quality ?
    Any help appreciated

Yeah, the method you described should work.

FYI, you won't get surround sound from it as the ntl box only outputs stereo sound, same as a Sky box (except a Sky+).

Thanks - I'll give this a go as I do have a vcr.
My Amp has pro-logic2 so the stereo output does its best impression of surround sound which realistically is not that far off.
It gives live footie a great atmosphere - all I need now is plastic cups and warm lager

You will get surround sound through the phono cables or scart. It will be Dolby surround/pro logic, not to be mistaken with Dolby Digital provided by Sky Plus. You will only receive surround if the programme is broadcast in surround by the provider. Most movies on Sky movies are in surround. The majority on films on Sky Movies 1 - 3 are also broadcast in Dolby Digital for those with Sky+ boxes. Many programmes such as The Simpsons are broadcast in surround (except the really old ones).

    Dec, you are a GEEK!

BTW I told you VCR was the way to go as long as you have the stereo jacks on that!

There are a few "gender benders" about that let you take off audio feeds - try Maplin or Peats.....look for Scart AV distributors in Maplin.... www.maplin.co.uk

Actually - Maplin have a scart to scart with phono leads stripped out - so you can connect Scart to scart and also connect up to 2 aux audio devices.

VA23A is the code - £9.99 STG - Ring them in Dublin on 01 8782388 and quote the code to them they will post it to you if you pay by credit card.
