That Auld Channel 4 Question

    Hi there

After happily FTV'ing in Cork for the last two years on a London card, and the BBC having buggered up the situation by going all 2D on us, I have finally decided to subject my rig to a Sky subsciption for Christmas.

I am getting conflicting information from Sky every time I speak to them. When I initially applied for the contract, they told me that C4 was included. Then I was told that it wasn't by email. THEN I was told that I could manually tune it in when I rang them again.

Could anyone confirm or deny that if I arm myself with the correct frequency I can tune C4 in on the back of my Sky Ireland Card?

    Cheers

    M

There is no way to tune in Channel 4 using an Irish Sky Subscription.

If you have never got a free box from Sky, it might be worth getting one now and keeping your existing box and FTV card for the UK terrestrials. You will need to go through an independant installer and get a quad LNB fitted on the dish so that you can run both boxes at the same time.

Hmmm. This is what I thought, but I am getting conflicting information from Sky.

There is also a rumour that ITV and C4 are going to go FTA within a few weeks as well. Which would be good news if we could believe it.

Nevertheless, (and I have all calls recorded to hard drive), I have been told by Sky twice that I will be able to receive C4 with the subscription I have agreed to.

What to do, what to do.....

Best plan would to be buy one of those new £23 FTV cards.

Even if Channel 4 were available on $ky it would be a rather expensive and pointles exercise taking out a family pack sub just for the sake of Channel 4 (unless of course you want some of the family pack channels too)

Ha - very good idea to record all of the calls. This means that you have their names too.

I would ring Sky and ask them specifically if Ch4 is coming on the Isrish line-up. If they say yes, ask them when and what number it will be.

ITV may go FTA but it will not be until next year when their contract with Sky runs out. Hopefully we will then be able to get all the regions and ITV2 (even better if they arrive before that).

There is no current sign of Channel 4 going FTA.

Ah yes, the new FTV cards. If mine is currently working, is it a Solus 2? I'd be interested in getting a new one if not, and am quite happy to pay for it, and I even have a UK address to order it delivered to. But here's a couple of quesitons.

    1. How do I get it?

    2. Please don't anyone suggest the Pout Tv route. You've obviously never been out with a Cork gurl if you do.......

Or if you want a subscription, get a UK sub using the UK address. Get what they call a "second hand contract" which will be sent to UK addy. You must have a credit card though. Then you'll also have ITV2 and Talksport, amongst Sky One, etc (though it must be said that these 2 channels aren't worthy of much except the odd footie game on ITV2) ;)
