    Hi,

Can anyone tell me how much sky + is in ireland and is it worth getting i.e. what are peoples views on it so far.

Also is it worth buying now or will the price drop even further in the near future?

    Tks

    Dwayne

Sky + is currently €299 with €75 Installation if you have Sky World.
Installation goes up to €100 if you do not subscribe to sky world
You will be charged €15 extra per month if you are not subsribed to a preimium pakage (either sports or movies)

is installation not just a matter of taking the box home and connecting cables or is there more to it than this?

Errr... He's talking about sky + thats Sky plus the pvr service from sky.

If you already have a digibox, and you are handy, you can install this yourself by replacing the existing lnb with the quad that comes with the sky plus box and running a second cable down to the new sky plus box.
The sky plus box needs two cable feeds from the lnb.

But if you want to wait for an installer to do the dish/lnb/cabling bit, you can simply replace your existing digibox with the sky plus box for the moment and you will still have live pausing and instant rewind if sky turn you on.

I've seen several posts here saying that, with the installation thing, there's no problem downgrading to basic service a month later. Is the same true of the €15/month or do they tack it back on if you downgrade?

The €15 Sky+ subscription is waived if you have 2 or more premium channels. Sky Sports 1 is a premium channel as is Sky Sports 2. Not sure what the story is with the movie channels since they changed from Premiere and Movie Max. They used to be counted as two premium channels.

A word to the wise ...

If you discontinue you Sky plus subscription after the agreed time Sky will lock up the SkyPlus functionality of the box so that you can no longer view movies etc that you may have recorded on the hard drive.

    Cute hoors ...

Given that my existing digibox (an old black Grundig) is getting slower and slower and seems to be on its way out (startin to give card errors when changing channels lately), I thought about Sky +....

    - no more tapes, better quality recordings.
    - "pause" live TV.
    - tape 1, watch another/dual recording.
    - upgrade the HD for more space (easy enough apparently).

    but.....

    - €375 in the first month (for box plus installation) is WAY too much.
    - You have to keep the premium channels to get the monthly sub waived.
    - If you downgrade/cancel you lose the features you PAID so much extra for leaving you with a bog standard digibox.

No thanks! Instead I got me a nice (perfect condition) Panasonic TU-DSB40 box, with all its bits and cables, AND a TV link (and second remote) for the total price of 200 yoyos from a nice guy on ebay (not too bad at all I think) and I'm working on gettin a nice new FTV card to go with it :)

I'm happy anyway tho others may disagree....

They're still counted as two. "Sky Movies 1" gives you Sky Movies 1 (yeah, I know:D), 3, 5, 7, 9. "Sky Movies 2" gives you Sky Movies 2, 4, 6, 8. Hence having all the movies is two premium channels.
