has anyone been following this story guys its absolutely fascinating, you can begin your journey here

    www.johntitor.com

it has links and reams and reams of information about this guy, appparently john Titor claimed he was a time traveler from the year 2036, he began posting on a now defunct froum hosted by an art bell person in november 2000 and disappeared never to be heard again on March 2001, when he puported he was going home to the year 2036.

its absolutely fascinating reading, he makes reference to an American Civil war starting next year and culiminating in nuclear war in 2015

So get ready guys the end nearly is upon us, whether this is true who knows but well find out sooon enough

    Shin

Eh bud the SiFi forum is over there ---->
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?forumid=234

It reads like a Survivalists Scaremongering site.

Predictions don't mean a lot if they are likely to happen - eg:
I predict that an overcrowded ferry will capsise in Bangladesh and 300 people will die.

The reason i posted it in here is that if you click on the john titor links page it brings to to the time travel institute of Americas webpage, the foremost mids on the subject have been debating this guys appearence and disappearence since it happened and they believe the claims of this guy to be have some merit in fact

    So who knows

AFAIR time travel is limited to objects smaller than the Planck distance and for increments of the Planck time.. (could argue that the De Broglie wave would fit..)

but - "If it's on the intarweb it must be true.."

Anyway here's the links you didn't post :D

But John, you forgot to mention, is it nice there in 2036?

Oh wait, people can multiply and divide in their heads. It must be Paradise, the Eden that God provided to Adam and Eve :p

Cool site, thanks for posting it, if nothing else it provides alot of nice links.

I wonder is he just a sad guy who knows alot about computers/physics research though, if he references alot of links it would strake me as the probable reality.

That said, if there are no olympics in 2008 I may build a bomb shelter. :)

    Cynical. Very cynical. But funny.

I have to say, I love this kind of stuff. I'm almost 100% certain that its a load of boll*cks, but whoever created it really did their research. The cross-referencing and everything is very consistent with the topic in hand. However, it all seems pretty sketchy when it comes to the man and the conversations themselves. Where are the actual logs of the conversations? Why did nobody bother to check his IP address and ISP? Did anyone check if he was running Windows or Linux???? (sic). And the idea that "he didn't really leave predictions, but we made up some anyway" really sucks. On the tiny, tiny chance that its genuine, I really wish somebody with a bit of sense had been around to collect some kind of rational data about the man.

Also, why did he come back to the year 2000? It makes no mention of whether he was a historian, or a sociologist, or a scientist. Surely somebody asked him this. Personally, I would have headed for Jerusalem around the year 33AD, or gone to take a peek at the dinosaurs, or something. What did he expect to see here? The non-event that was Y2K? The rise and fall of Napster?

Like that bloke with the Bible codes - I think I'll just wait for some actual scientific evidence before I go along with this. At least when Jesus said "Happy are those who have seen, and yet believe", he was talking as a spiritualist, rather than a scientist.

mr_angry, a lot (all, i think) of the questions you ask he actually answered. Have a better poke around :)

I would say the guy was a probably a politics/psychology major, perhaps doing it for a project/thesis.

His decision to paint the future as a bleak mad max style world with little technological advancement and alot of reworking of old technology is probably alot more defendable than a star trek style universe.

That said, his posts were pre-911 and as such his "history lesson" in the run up to 2036 was in retrospect shockingly possible.

In light of recent political and terrorist activity this week and the recent petition across states to civil liberties breaches maybe a US civil war isn't too unrealistic.

Yeah it's well done, though not terribly original. He does contradict himself a few times though in his statements about the start date of the war, medical care, taxes and the role of women.

The photo of the 'time machine' is hilarious. :D

It looks like a piece of **** alright. Probably wouldn't get your as far as the local shops let alone across 30 years of time.

Na it's just easier to portray it that way, probably been watching reruns like "the ultimate warrior" or "soylent green" - Yanks are force fed on that stuff - it's as if to say enjoy it while it lasts. Also cuts down on the explainations.

The giveaway for me is that an old computer could cross compile to fix a date problem and no other computer since could - huh ? Look at the Open Source community , the Xbox has been hacked so many ways , and loads of drivers have been reverse engineered (Centrino wireless support is the next big one on the list.) and loads of bugs fixed. So I can't buy it that a Unix problem thirty years in to the future can ONLY be solved by a machine from thirty years in the past....

And re the terrorism - what about timmothy Mc Veigh and the previous attacks on the WTC ?

Well I have an open mind and i think it could easily be possible. Sooner or later we are going to discover time travel so what stops someone coming back to visit us.

on the other hand it mightn't be true (very possible also) but he does point out things
    (35) While you sit by and watch your Constitution being torn away from you, you willfully eat poisoned food, buy manufactured products no one needs and turn an uncaring eye away from millions of people suffering and dying all around you. Is this the "Universal Law" you subscribe to?

    (36) Perhaps I should let you all in on a little secret. No one likes you in the future. This time period is looked at as being full of lazy, self-centered, civically ignorant sheep. Perhaps you should be less concerned about me and more concerned about that.

I believe that he has a point there

Also he has things about the String Theory, it is actually a very interesting part of science. Google String Theory. Interesting stuff
