I took a stroll around compustore on my lunch break the last day. The had SuSE 8.2 pro for ~E130.

I got it free two months ago with Linux Format. I didnt get the manuals of course, but there are soft copies included.

I would have mentioned it, but I know two people working there and I didn't want to embarass them.

They'll be selling the telephone directory next. :p

All the more reason to mention it, IMO.

pro is on 4 dvds... are you sure it was that you got off Linux Format? If so, what issue... I could do with it on dvd :)

Mine came on one DVD, but the magazine said complete distro, so I dont know how that weighs up with what youre saying. I thought it came on 4 cds?

And apologies, the magazine was Linux Magazine, and the issue was 36.

    got my copy :)
it turns out that the distro on the dvd doesn't include the source which would explain why it's 3.6gb instead of the almost 11 of the distro + source.

Oh right. That makes sense. I was a little paranoid that maybe I was missing a few nuts and bolts :)

Good luck with it. It's a class distro for someone who wants to switch quickly and easily from windows. Theres an equibalent for nearly everything I used in windows with SuSE 8.2.

If I do another install, I dont think I'll bother with the windows partition again. Waste of 2 GB ( on a 20gig HD:D)

i was in there a few weeks back and noticed they had ret hat 7 for over 100e and rh8 for 325 or something stupid.

didn't want to point it out in case they were some special distro i didn't know about with the manual printed on gold leaf or something.

someone who knows a bit more about penguin related stuff should go in there and point and laugh at them.

I dont think I can legally make a copy of SuSE, see my second post above, you can probably backorder the issue there. If you want any linux related software that hasnt got the licencing issues (SuSE is the only exception really), see this page
