Tech Support and Sales

    Hi all

My company will have in the near future a new position and I really just want to send out a kite to see if anyone is interested in the type of position I have in mind.

The role would be two fold - Technical support and Sales.

The support role sould be intended as a backup to an existing engineer. Support would cover Network hardware and software (mostly M$), Pc's printers, internet connections etc - the usual for a company providing a complete computer package for SMEs.

The sales role would be just that - selling our products, hardware and software, including our own accounting system , a new version of which is just becomming available.

Im not sure what way to base salary/commission at the moment but this can be worked out.

Are there people out there who would be interested in such a position?

As I said, I am just kite flying at the moment and I dont want to contact any recruitment companies as I have been ripped off enough by them in the past.

Incoming or outgoing sales? You may find it tough to find a tech who'll do outgoing sales, or a salesperson interested in tech support.

If it's incoming, then you need to decide what kind of tech you want. Do you want someone to be the be-all-and-end-all of your tech support, or someone to screen out the simple problems before passing them onto a senior tech? That can make a big difference in expected salary, etc etc.

I would be interested in such a position if it paid more since it's similar to what I do now :)

I'd also like to know more about what the job would entail. Also, Full time / Part time positions?

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

The position would be full time.

I presume by incoming and outgoing sales you mean, reactive and proactive. The position would involve both. New business is essential.

The tech support element is to act as a backup to an engineer. If the engineer is sick/ on holidays or busy then the idea is that you would be able to cover. Bearing this in mind - someone straight from college would probably not be suited to the position as some tech experience is necessary.

The main skillsets required are the following, MS Server 2000 and other versions, Exchange, ISA Server, SQL Server, Server hardware support - mainly compaq, PC support - again mainly compaq. Anti virus solutions, mainly Sophos. DSL support, Routers, firewalls, adaptors etc. Some Netware support - reducing. The most important skillset is Cop-on - to be able to face somthing you have never seen before, research it and resolve it.

There would be a basic pay, but part of the remuneration would be commission based.

If you have any more questions or suggestions please let me know.
