Hi Folks....

I'm currently doing a distance learning couse through oscail....and i have an exam approaching fast.... :(

My question is when you work out the regression co efficient

using the formula below...what does the "a" represent?

where "E" is the sum

b = n Exy - Ex Ey
2 2
n Ex - ( Ex)

_ _
a = y - bx

My apoligies for using "E" as the sum reprentation..

Now I have worked out regression using the top formula ....but whats the story with the bottom formula?

Thanks

Darren

Tip
Edit your post and add
at the start and
at the end.

If it's the equation of a straight line then A is the value where you either the horizontal or vertical lines (ie x=0 or y=0)
B would be the slope - depends on the angle of the line to the x or y axis
