two questions - one amp + one guitar

Right I'm a bit of teh n00b (OK I'm very much a n00b so feck off :P ), but a friend of mine is selling a Gibson imitation Les Paul guitar (or something to that effect) for around €250. He says it's worth €400 and it's in good condition - he also says it's a decent beginners guitar. I can't find it on any sites so I can't give a picture, but it's all black w/two knobs on the front and says Gibson on a plate at the end of the neck. Also says something else in heavily stylised writing at the very end of the guitar up at the strings, Phonics or something. Can't remember. Anyway sorry for rabbiting on, but are these decent guitars for a beginner?

Another problem I've got is amps - those things are fXXXing expensive!! Bleedin' €400 for a decent one, I almost died. I know the smallest of the small is those little boxes that are something like 50W and since I'm a beginner here I obviously don't mind. What can I expect to pay? Cheapest as possible would be preferable.

I really don't want to spend more than €350 at the very most, if not €300. I'm hardly made of cash! I'm surprised at how expensive all this is, it's disturbing TBH.

    Thanks folks!

you dont need a new amp - www.buyandsell.ie

i'd say the guitar is an epiphone, grand for startin out

Epiphone! That's the one, thanks. What's so grand about them exactly? Just easy to pick up and start strumming, or does it lacka bunch of bobbins here and there that more expensive ones have?

I'm checking through Buy And Sell now, not sure why I didn't think of that. I'm having terrible trouble telling the difference between a Hi-Fi system and a guitar amp though.

Edit: found it: http://www.samedaymusic.com/media/fit,325by400/quality,85/EPILPSPIIPPEB.jpg Though he does only have the guitar and it looks like he's trying to fleece me on the price...

the epiphone wont be made by the top quality craftsmen who make real gibsons and it wont be made with the same extremely high quality materials - woods, electronics are of lesser quality in the epiphone. as for it being easy to play, thats really up to you. go around different shops and try the guitars, feel em up;) its personal choice, but the epi. is certainly a very good guitar for a beginner - my lead guitarist has one and he is by no means a beginner, hes amazing at the ould geetar, and he loves his epi.

if u have any questions on amps u find in buy and sell - post them here and i'm sure someone could answer.

I'd say €250 for a Epi beginners second hand is a bit on the expensive side tbh. As for an amp here. I'm waiting for one to be delivered then I shall post a wee review, if you'd like.
