CF cards from 7dayshop.com?

I'm about to order a Canon 300D. It doesn't come with any memory, so I am on the lookout for some compactflash cards. I'm more used to smartmedia, where all the cards are the same regardless of manufacturer. CF on the other hand seems to be a bit of a minefield. Has anybody tried the unbranded CF cards at 7dayshop.com ? Are they reasonably fast or slow ? I'll probably go with a few 256MB cards rather than have all my eggs in one microdrive!

There can be speed differences with Compact Flash; whether this actually affects how it performs in your camera is a different matter. Essentially the faster the card, the quicker you can take another photo (the other factor being the size of your camer's buffer). Other than that there are no major differences that I know of.

EDIT: Sorry, read your post too quickly - I see that you already know about the speed issue. FYI, DPReview did a roundup that evaluated speed, while remarking on the lack of standards in this area. Unfortunately neither your card nor the ones I was looking at/own are featured.

mmm, nice camera - think I'll be upgrading in the near future :)

back to cf cards : have a look to http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/
they do a good review of "digital film"

may I ask where you are buying your camera - I found nomatica.com the best - bought a coolpix 5700 off them for about E700 cheaper than dublin shops. and I got an extra battery & mini-tripod. You could also have a look at www.technikdirekt.de , prices look at really good

Bambam, I ordered one from Worldtronix at €1,049, (+€26 shipping), including the lens, which is a good bit cheaper than Nomatica's price. Never ordered from them before however, and they don't currently have it in stock either, so fingers crossed.

I notice that komplett.ie has brand named CF cards for E5-15 more (depending on size) than 7day.com. they have the ultra fast ones too

Thanks. I've ordered a 256MB SanDisk Ultra to see how I get on before ordering any more. Ordered the camera and memory from NYcamera for €1088 (for the camera) +16 delivery. However, they are out of stock and the expected delivery date keeps moving in the wrong direction! Early to mid December is the latest. I was going to cancel the order and try Pixmania but they are also now out of stock, and I'm sure their price has gone up since I last checked!

Thanks blorg. I since found this site which provides a database of card performance on different cameras. I went for the SanDisk based on this (price/performance).

Yeah, I didn't take the chance with 7dayshop in the end. Great for smartmedia, but I expect their compactflash will be the slowest available !
