Leaving NTL for SKY. A question

I ended my subscription to NTL and got a dish instead.

NTL came to disconnect me but wouldn't remove their cables and box from outside the house. I guess they would cut off my neighbours if they did.

Do I have to keep their wires on my property ?

They're unsightly and I'd like them removed.

What exactly are the boxes and wires and are they are your property?

I think their is some laws about the equipment that utility companies can have on your premises and their right of access to it. There might have been some deal struck with a previous owner of the property that may give NTL some rights but I reckon they should at least tidy it up if its a mess and keep you onside. You might even be able to wrangle some free services from them for your continued cooperation!!

Unlike Eircom or the ESB NTL have no right to have their equipment or wires on your property without permission but if you insist on their removal you could be depriving your neighbours of service
