NTL Digital Channels

Anyone know if NTL Digital here have any plans to give us Paramount 2 and UKG2?
I also think it strange they haven't added the FTA BBC channels to their line up yet!
NTL really need to keep their eye on the ball offering new channels ... espeically now with Sky+ doing so much marketing!

    Welcome to the boards grrnnw.

I should imagine that UKG2 will just replace UK Gold 2. Surely it's going to be on the same frequency, like the CNX and Toomani swapover earlier this year?

I agree about the new BBC channels. The last time I asked NTL about them I got the usual 'we're in discussions to carry these channels' spiel

Actually, going OT a bit but I don't think NTL really mind what Sky are doing. The reason I say this is that if you look at NTL's main market in Ireland it's Dublin. Dublin's sprouting more and more apartment complexes that don't allow Sky dishes. Just looking around my small office here, out of 11 of us only 4 are living in a place that allows dishes (and 2 of those are outside NTL's catchment area anyway). The rest of us are forced to use NTL if we want multi channel viewing.

A mate of mine lives in an apartment complex that has a cherry picker come every 2 months to cut down dishes as they're banned in the lease.

Am I missing something or is UKG2 not the new channel that'll show repeats of Beeb show soon after they air?

    Snipped from Digital Spy:
BBC Broadcast says that the new channel identity for UK G2 - the replacement for UK Gold 2 - is based on the idea of "bending the rules," taking its cue from the "irreverent humour" of shows to air on the channel.

Looking at Digiguide it's basically recent BBC comedy and drama shows. Lots of Spooks, Room 101, The Kumars & Alan Partridge. Good shows but doesn't look anything too original. Seems to start broadcasting at around the same time as UK Gold 2 too, around 8pm every night.

UK G2 has now replaced UK Gold 2 on #121. The EPG channel identifier remains "UK Gold 2", but ITV News' remains "ITN News Channel" so don't read too much into that...

The channel seems to loosly follow the line up of quiz show, followed by sitcom, followed by drama. "And Sunday nights are an event in themselves" says the publicity...

THe daily line up is run about three times a day, ie they run through the schedule in about three hours then repeat it again!

Just on the Beeb FTA thing - you are not allowed just grab channels and carry them - FTA is for the UK market and has all sorts of funding from licences etc....NTL in Ireland do need permission from the Beeb to do this.

In fact, when ntl first launched the UK Gold channels, they actually called UK Gold 2, "UK G2." It's just a coincidence I suppose.

It's a pity it doesn't start 'till 8pm though.

CNX was replaced by Toonami a few months ago by its owners Turner Broadcasting.

Personally I thaught CNX was a much better channel than Toonami. :(

In relation to the FTA Beeb channels, keep an eye out over the next few days - can't say any more at this stage ;)

And 4! And a couple of those kiddie channels and a few others. If all goes to plan, before the weekend.

    Great news.

BTW is Sky Sports Xtra one of the channels to be added?

Fraid not. I think it was introduced in ntl UK recently. Is that an interactive channel?

What are the odds any of the extra chanells launched earlier this year will make it to Galway.

We have 63 (radio and TV) compaired to over a 100 for Dublin but pay the same charge. :-(

Can't say. Galway has a huge amount of analogue channels compared to Dublin (it also has a much higher bandwidth with more room than Dublin) . It's just a matter of freeing up some muxes. It will just take time. Haven't a clue of any of the plans for Galway and Waterford.

    Any word on ITV2?

Also, what extra analogue channels are on in Galway as compared with Dublin?

    thanks

Yeah, it was launched on ntl in the UK a while ago.

They don't have any of the interactive features though, they just have the plain channel ATM.

it used to be the interactive channel. eg. it would show Super Sunday at the same time as Sky Sports 1. it was very pointless but they should rename it Sky Sports 4 now seeing as it's schedules are independant of the other 3 Sky Sports channels

FYI they've just appeared here on 115 and 116 on the EPG. CBBC and CBeebies are also there on 608 and 609.

The other new channels are Adult (in intermission right now), ECWG or something like that - Bacically another God channel. BBC News 24 has replaced BBC World on 206
