DSL + Games

    This is an infomation thread for the DSL + using games on it.

    Example; if CS uses 40Kb/sec download, thats 300 bytes a minute, 18KBytes an hour, or 54KBytes for 3 hours, and if this was on a twice weekly basis, it'd be 432KBytes a month (for 24 hours of game play, for one player).

    But, running a populated counter-strike server uses about 40K/sec and upward. This works out to be a little more than 3 gigs a day (about 20 players, at all times, on a busy day).

    Therefore, I ask; is there a tool to tell you how much you've downloaded, in X time?

    I could then use it in checking out how much MB's each game download, so I know BEFORE I go over the limit.

    in dsl you network connection shows as X downloaded [using 2k/xp]

    so just look at connection stats...

    secondly, yer maths are confusing, and just a wee bit off ...
    40Kb/sec download, thats 300 bytes a minute

    i'm unsure of exact amounts of bandwith fps' use, however seriously doubt it's
    But, running a populated counter-strike server uses about 40K/sec and upward

    look at it dialup ...
    max speed = 5.3k sec [approx]
    so your saying dsl gives you 8 times faster gameplay ? .... don't think that's right ...

    The first bit;
    40Kb= 5bytes *60 (seconds) = 300 bytes (approxmitly)

    The second bit was taken from here; http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/17411

    Don't run a public CS server on your DSL connection, it will rape your bandwidth allowance and piss off everyone else using the connection.

    wont be running any servers lol;
    40kb ... you talking in bits or bytes ? lol
    dsl is capible of ~60kb/sec downloads
