well doesnt look like anyones heard about this then... i did hear that it was a 7% increase overall starting from last may with 3%.. then another 2% last month with the final 2% in Jan...

Maybe it was just a union thing or summit but thought it was worth looking into! :-)

The pay increases you talk about are under the "Sustaining Progress" agreement. www.google.ie will find it for you page 66.

It is 3% then 2% then 2% but the applicable dates vary from industry to industry. The minimum wage is due to increase to €7.00 (with exceptions) from 1 February 2004.

In a small business, you are likely to be able to negotiate better (get the boss while he's tipsy before Christmas).

thanks for that info Victor. Looks like this "Sustaining Progress" agreement is only associated with unions and the like though... IBEC and the small business association for example...

well as far as i can see anyway :-) which is no good for me..

Who cares, companies don't stick to the national wage increases at all.

I'm getting nothing from it. Bloody IT companies ignore all those unions who get pay increases in other industries.

so who do they call it a "national wage increase" is its only the bloody unions that get it and not your average bloke... hardly national is it?

As best I know everyone is entitled to it, but as I said you can normally get better by having a chat with your boss. It is illegal for an enterprise to treat non-union staff less favourably than union staff.

but eh... I get slightly more than that already - bet that won't rise accordingly though.

You should. If not, talk to the union. As best I know your employer should provide or post in a conspicuous place a copy of the registered agreement for shop workers.

I've not heard anything about us being entitled to an increase. There's no union at all in the entire company. Can we still get the increase or is it dependent on some other factors?

It should apply to everyone i think. Whether or not your employer tries to weasel out of raising your wages is another issue :)
