    Big Daddy Kane - "Raw"

P*ssy Muthaf*ckas puttin money on my head, go one get yo refund Muthf*cka I aint dead!

    50 Cent - Heat (I think)

And Beastie Boys - Professor Booty (Long Lyric but class! Notice the only swear word is "ass". How times have changed IMO!)

    "So many wack M.C.'s

    You get the T.V. bozack

Ain't even gonna call out your names

    'Cause you're so wack

But one big oaf whose faker than plastic

A dictionary definition of the word spastic

You should have never started something

    That you couldn't finish

    'Cause writin' rhymes to me

    Is like Popeye to spinach

I'm bad ass move your fat ass

    'Cause you're wack son

Dancin' around like you think you're Janet Jackson

Thought you could walk on me

To get some ground to walk on

I'll put the rug out under your ass

    As I talk on

I'll take you out like a sniper on a roof

Like an M.C. at the fever in the D.J. booth"

And basically anything ever written by Eminem (too many to mention!)

Everlast of House of Pain - "I'ma swing it"
    When I die,
    bury me,
hang my balls from a cherry tree,
let them get ripe then take a bite,
but if they don't taste right then don't blame me!

    Ice T - Midnight

Great song, memories from a long time ago when my mate had the O.G. album.

    "Sh*t was gettin' craazy
So I had to get busy
    Hen was bleedin' worse
    And Evil was gettin' dizzy
    Looked in a parking lot
    I needed a snatch bar
    Had to hot wire
So I moved on an old car
It was a bucket, but f*ck it, it had to do
    Started it up
    And scooped my whole crew
    Two blocks later
    We saw f*ckin' blue lights
    The pigs were behind us
    It was half past midnight!"

    Lyrics here --> Midnight

    Badazz in Tupac's Krazy -
God help me out here, cuz I'm posessed.
I need the root of all evil for my stress.
Cuz now it's like a stong prescription drug.
It's got me addicted to the pleasure and the pain it's inflicted.
Something about the paper wit the pictures of the presidents head.
Damn it's like a motha ****in plague. It spreads.
It's epidemic. Forgotten, forgotten it got worse.
I keep my head on straight, makin money cuz it's cursed.
Makin money makes a difference day by day
So I gotta stay paid, no doubt. Day in and day out.
This life is like a vicious cycle called fightin to live.
No matter how hard you try, it's in death.
    You gotta die.
Bottom line: peers didn't make it to the years to come.
Dear life doin right or dear life leavin dumb.
Who has the answers? I wonder. I turn to my elders,
They aged and experienced, but they can't even tell ya.
Or tell me there'll be light at the end of the road
    Cuz they don't even know.
A million thangs run through my mind.
You ain't gotta be in jail or be doin time.

    Man...its just deep

Nate dogg, emboss - fair play!

Kurupt's verse on that is pretty good also...

    "I know the pussy's mine,
So Ima **** a couple more times"

Other classic hip hop lyrics i'm fond of would be...

"You'd rather have a beamer, a lexus or freedom?
See I don't playa hate I just stay awake,
It's real hip hop.." Dead Prez "Hip Hop"

"So what about the bitch who got shot?
**** her! You think I give a damn about a bitch
I ain't a sucker." Eazy-E in "Straight Outta Compton", at his nonchalantly misogynistic best

"I may look kinda funny but I ain't no fool" Outkast, "Synthesiser"

"I slam tracks like quarterback sacks from L.T" Wu Tang Clan, "Wu Tang Ain't Nuthin ta **** with"

So many more...the whole lyric of "Fight the power" too, in particular..

"Elvis was a hero to most,
But he never meant **** to me,
A straight up racist the sucker was simple and plain
mother **** him and John Wayne!
Cos I'm black and I'm proud, alright,
    I'm piped cos I'm amped,
Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamp."

    Pure class.

One thing bout music when it hits you feel no pain

Red_ice you know thats the opening line of Trenchtown Rock, by Bob marley & the wailers..

Dead Prez, Hip-Hop is a great tune, one of my favouite basslines, and a great example of non-bling bling orientated rap.

    Anyway.. another favourite of mine.
Gil Scott Herons, the revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be right back after a message
bbout a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.

"Now pimpin' aint easy but it's necessary, so I'm chasing bitches like Tom chased Jerry"

Ice Cube - Down for whatever

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,946 ✭✭✭red_ice

not a great fan of 50, but there is a line in pimp that makes me break myself laughin.. it goes something like
i know you say i speak real fast, but if you listen real fast i wont have to slow down B1TCH!

    i thnk thats great :)

another line that i love from Dangerous - bigL + OC jewls remix
ass swingin like a shandelere, like a cat in heat with her ass all up in the air

The roots - Adrenaline (my favourite song of all time)
ladies and gentlemen, select your weapon at the gate apon enterin
Thats what you do, face to face with raw n1ggahs i give you, a bad case of the fuked up jitters once AGAIN

The thing that i love about the roots, is that they are a band, they dnt use turntables, they had a guy called rahzel who beatboxed and used vocal scratches. He left to persue a simgle career, doin well. Now the roots have an MC called scratch who does the vocal scratches... omg hes sooo good!

I highly recommend getting adrenaline and listening to it, coz its all instruments and vocals - turntables need not apply! :)

I recommend getting all their albums.
Off the same album as Adrenaline (Things Fall Apart) is The Next Movement, which is probably my favourite Roots song.

print the lot off and sing along.. tis great fun trying to keep up :)

my favourite lyrics are probably from As The World Turns (Blackalicious, off Nia)...

as the world keeps spinning we live these days, dollar bill gone and drove the whole world crazy, while we're sitting on the porch letting ganja blaze, never hesitate a moment to enhance my phrase..

or the whole of Sleep or Shallow Days (off Nia).. or maybe Daylight by Aesop Rock.. "all I ever wanted was to pick apart the day.. put the pieces back together my way"..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Cannibal Ox

I recommend getting all their albums.

You don't think there new album is a bit...too R&By?

I mean, don't get me wrong, Do You Want More is one of the best Hip hop albums of all time imho, and Black Thought is a damn fine emcee but the new joint, I wasn't feeling in the same way I felt Illadelph or Do You Want More.

As for lines, two sprang to mind...

Life's not a bitch life is a beautiful woman
Your only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that pussy
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
Or maybe you're just an asshole who couldn't sweet talk the princess

    Oh, and...

Got any last words? I got two
    Try ****, and you.

The firsts Aesop Rock, from Daylight on the Labour Days LP and the seconds Xzibit, from Chamber Music on 40Dayz and 40Nightz.

Rahzel's dope. No other word for the guy, he constantly amazes me with the **** he comes out with.
If you think hes good on the Roots, you need to get "If Your Mother Only Knew."
It's the one Rahzel song everyone should have (heck, any hip-hop fan should have, example of perfect beat boxin')

"this is the millennium of aftermath there aint gonna be nothing after that so gimme one more platinum plaque and fock rap you can have it back"

Dr Dre fet Eminem-forgot about dre.

"im 23 now but will i live to see 24 the way things are goin i dont know"
(sounds good in the context of the song)
    Coolio-gangstars paradise.

"Straight outta compton is a brother who`ll smother yo mother and make your sister think i love her Dangerous mo`focker raises hell"

    Eazy E, NWA-Straight outta compton.

"forget a corus my methaphors are so complicated that it takes 6mins to get applause. by the time its over im gonna end your career and rip out the floor so you have nothin to fall back on"

    Eminem-nothing to do.

I have to disagree with you here mate. Dre in my opinion has very weak lyrics. Although a great producer, he can't rap for sh*t.

That Coolio lyric you quoted is a simple but effective line that works well in that song.

As for one of my favourite lyrics Only God can Judge me by 2Pac came to mind..

I hear the doctor standing over me
    screamin I can make it
Got a body full of bullet holes layin here naked
Still I, can't breathe, somethings evil in my IV
Cause everytime I breathe, I think they killin me
    I'm having nightmares, homicidal fantansies
I wake up stranglin, danglin my bed sheets
I call the nurse cause it hurts, to reminisce
How did it come to this? I wish they didn't miss

    Actually, yeah I do.
Well not entirely, but Break You Off just doesnt seem like a Roots song to me. I don't really like it all that much. With it being the first single off Phrenology, I was a bit worried, but then the Seeds 2.0 was next and that quashed my fears. I love that song.
Maybe r&b isn't the word for it, it's certainly more eclectic than their other albums. Like that hidden track at the end. Well the 2nd hidden one. You know the dance one? Which I actually like because of what Rahzel does on it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Cannibal Ox

    Rahzel + Sean Paul...
I could have cried, really I could have.
But that isn't a bad song on the Roots album.

It's not a terrible album heck it's better then most hip hop albums rotating on MTV right now, but I really would prefer to seem them return to their Roots (someone shoot me for that...).
I just think Black Thought's voice is much more suited to the old jazzy stuff they used to produce.
It's a shame, they probably won't and the next album will probably just continue their current trend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Sean Paul is on it wtf?
Do you not mean Talib Kweli?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭Cannibal Ox

    Unfortunatley not.
Rahzel for some reason does a song with him on his (Sean Paul) album.
