Has anyone come across any books on digital photography for beginners that they'd care to recommend?

    thanks

I'd be careful buying a digital photography book, many are filled with basic info on how to save your pictures from a camera or print or very basic image manipulation which all seems to be aimed at computer illiterate people, so if you are fairly compuetr literate it's irrevelant.

Another subject seems tobe the cameras themselves, which isn't too relevant if you've already boguht your camera first and then decided to get a book.

If you already have a camera and know how to use a PC then the info you're looking for is probably related to the at of photography itself or else image manipulation and I'd recommend a specific book in either of these areas. I recently got "Photoshop for Digital photographers" which seems excellent so far. The 35mm handbook is a great book on photography in general, though aimed at film, many of the concepts are revelant to digital anyway.

    Just my 2cent.

Thanks for the advice, I had a flick through a few books in Hodges Figgis and they try to cover all topics and end up covering none. I have decided on the camera, I have books on photography so I think I will probably go with your advice and get a book on photoshop.

Also who wrote the 35mm handbook you have, I did a search on amazon and there are 2 books with that title, one by Michael Freeman and one by Michael Langford.

    many thanks

Cool, I have the Langford one... i think there's actaully a third one with a similar title with a black cover called The 35mm Photographer's Handbook by Julian Calder, John Garrett. I've flicekd throug hthis in a shop and it seems very like the langford one but better.
