Which of these trilogies do you prefer?
    IMO LOTR is better
    some of my reasons:
    - Didnt like the matrix ending
    - The matrix is kinda just like an enhanced cliché action film
    - Some parts of the matrix is ultimate cheese , eg- neo is able to fly, if he can fly, why cant he teleport or stop time?
    - LOTR has a better story line and plot
    - battle sequences are equally good in both trilogies
    - LOTR isnt purely action n what not, with its different emotions

cant think of any other reasons at the present
please post your reasons for your choice

ive gone for lord of the rings,no doubt about it
the visuals in the films are amazing and the locations they shot from. also id say MUCH harder film to make cause it aint easy convertin a book wit that much detail into a movie.and they made it really well good choose of actors etc
matrix is also a v godd film nicely thought up and all but it lacks variation in places i think so lotr wins my vote
    wp peter jackson ;)

I don't think you can compare them in fairness. There both unique stories.

Pretty ridiculous idea to compare the two. Chalk and cheese.....

I'd vote LOTR but its TOO ******* LONG!

I'd vote the Matrix but the ending was a big letdown...

In one of them at the end there is a massive battle which is really only a diversion so a small group can slip past the defenses. The defenses are a heavily fortified wall. And just when all looks like it is lost during the main battle the enemy are defeated..

The other is the Lord of the Rings.

Well, this is obviously a very stupid and childish poll...

And obviously on a film scale, the Lord Of The Rings films aren't yet complete. And they wont be until nearly this time next year, when we get the Return Of The King extended edition.

    But I voted LOTR.
    Obviously, yes...

I think The Matrix simply ran dry with all its pseudo inteluctuallisms (To quote a gathering card) and characters who were simply flimsy plot devices to wax lyrical about such things to make them seem somewhat deeper. It just bottled out in the end, and seeing as its certainly not a true trilogy, I dont think the two should even be compared. In fact, I think the matrix would've benefitted from staying a stand-alone film.

Lord of the rings is just a far more well-round and better written peice of work. It had better themes that ran deeper than the matrix, and it didn't need to try and shove such themes down your throat, just had the characters relay things by themselves in their actions. The Matrix was just dreadfully shallow.

I could rant all day long, but I wouldn't bother my arse about it.

At least one thing that can be said about The Matrix is that it gave us probably one of the greatest baddies since Vader.

Why do people post polls of this nature, the two films have nothing in common, the only reason for such a poll would be, for example, a 'film of the year' discussion, in which case you need more options. This thread smells of cabbage!!

Lord of the Rings is still a trilogy since there is a book of it
    So it still counts

    Childish? how?

actually they do, since probably they are both the most popular trilogies ever made, and Revolutions and Return of the King are the most anticipated films of the year
    case closed:ninja:

I cant believe anyone actually went to the trouble of comparing the two! And I don't mean from the "chalk and cheese" perspective, but just the fact that Lord Of The Rings is superior by a factor of about 1,000,000,000! I can't see any reason why anyone would vote for the Matrix, unless they have some kind of fetish about trenchcoats!

I mean come on! Lord Of The Rings actually has a story!

Lotr is a great book, but I felt the two films I've seen so far didn't manage to capture the suspense of the book. I'll even go as far to say that I hated both lotr movies.

Obviously LOTR. Even though we've only seen 2/3 of it. The Matrix trilogy had only one good movie after which everything went to their heads and they crapped out two duds. Whereas LOTR were filmed back to back and can't be much affected by the hype since they begain airing.

LOTR has: better story/script, better acting, WAY better directing, better SFX, greater epic quality, greater cinematography, greater photography, greater sound, greater score, greater sound editing, better produced (just enough hype!), better lighting... you can see where I'm going with this :D

LOTR will stand the test of time as a trilogy. The Matrix will stand alone but be tarnished by it's ugly offspring.

as a whole lotr rings is a better trilogy (tho rotk isint out yet but im presuming its going to be as quality as tho first two) but the original matrix is imho a far more thought provoking film nad it has unbelievable action sequences, three of the best of all time in one film

In my opinion, the Matrix isn't a trilogy.. The first one is deadly and the second two are ****e...

    LOTR are just deadly..

Strange poll.. send this bad boy to the recycle bin :D

Has to be Lord of the rings, I love the matrix but its not in the same league as LOTR and at least we know we are guarenteed not to get a cop out ending in return of the king

This is the FILM board, so as a FILM trilogy, it doesn't, and shouldn't count. Counting a BOOK on a FILM board? Do you need a drawn diagram?

Im really really bored,so I made the diagram.

matrix was a mere blip on the way to the king.

    the end has come, etc.

Matrix... has fallen so far from the first... LOTR gets my vote

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 161 ✭✭Wheeler

you cant really compare.LOTR was a book written years ago by a guy who spent yrs writing it.The matrix is a film by two brothers who spend more time having court battles with andys ex wife than writing a story.
2 excellent films. I think sequels should never have been made of the matrix.the first film could never be bettered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 407 ✭✭niallith

its not really a question of comparing its jus 2 films which do yah think is better
and wat makes one better than the other i guess

Having seen only the 1st 2 Matrix movies, and obviously the same for LotR I'd have to say LotR wins by a mile. The Matrix was a great movie, let down only by it's sequel and (I've heard) it's second sequel. I loved eerything about LotR so far, and RotK promises to be a great ending to the trilogy.

    Ending
Frodo and Sam gay each other up. Heard they're leaving out the scouring of the shire(or whatever the last chapter was called?), that would be absolute folly.

didja read that outa the book, or hear from the film?
