ok so last year i heard that a student bar was been built???
obviously not any more!

so 3 q's?

1:is it ever goin to be?

2:is it carlow the only one with out one?

3:are the student coming out of it carlow better off not havin one?

1. There was talk of one being built but dont hold your breath for it being during our student lifetime!!
2. As far as i know all the universities in ireland have a su bar. Some of the IT's do... waterford athlone etc. but most dont (including DIT the largest student body in the country)
3. I think we would be better off. The price and quality would have to be better than the farce that is scraggs. Also they would more than likely serve food which im guessing might be slightly more appealing than that served up by (cough cough) the campbells catering monopoly™

The plans for it are in the S.U. office its ment to be a wrap around center to the Barrow center, lack of funding was the main issue with is as far as i know.

ya there was rumour of a new students services building in carlow with a new su and pub etc but i dont see any build going on

It was originally opposed as the college was too close to the secondary school,
but as far as I remember in 2001 they got the planning permission and there are still palns to build it,

i heard that they were building a campus and a creche and a pub and that funding would be got for all three, but if they build a campus or basic student accomdation on the grounds, carlow will loose it IT status and become university.

Permission was given to build a pub around the barrow centre but there's no money as the college is €1m in debt. I thought everybody new about that.

Thats not possible,Carlow is one of the smaller It's and will prob never ever become a University and definately not in the near future,

The student accomodation is those yellow apartments beside the college which were really expensive,

Gmit,lit both have proper student accom,dunno bout the rest of them,


I cant see the creche happening in the near future when their are funds available from the college for child minding no matter how bad they are,

There has been a bar planned for the past 5 years but it wont happen anytime soon. Mainly for funding reasons and the fact that its beside a school. Oh and because the college would have to fund its running too. The union have been meant to get a new office for as long too.

We are one of the few without a bar too.

I too heard the roumours, I also heard that the reason the plot beside the kelishen center was bought so that the kelished could be knocked and a new section including a pub would be built there. Also heard plans for a large leacute auditorium.
Not beyond the bounds of possibility.

I'd say Mary Martin has a big say in it too. She doesnt like to see students having a laff.

though if she see this I will prob get an essay on why students are bad

I doubt it would do that well cause if you look at all the other college that have pub they seem to do quite badly

athlone pub, scribes, was only built a few years ago. The pub from accross the road, charlie browns, run it due to the fact that it would probably ruin their business, or something like that. As far as i know its making a mint.
