Distribution of video signal over 12m

    I presently transmit signals from my 3 satellite receivers and DVD player in my bedroom via a wireless marmitek link to the TV in my living room. This is frequently subject to interference, e.g. by microwave oven of neighbours, so I want to replace it with a cable link (12 - 15 m).

    I have asked this question in the UK technical forum and got various conflicting answers, so I am raising it again here. Perhaps Watty, Tony or some other expert can help. I notice a page about TV distribution under construction on Watty's home page.

    Should I:

    (i) run a 10m + 5m SCART cable? There seems to be some question whether this is too long. Also, I will have to make holes in a solid concrete floor, so the huge size of SCART pin makes this difficult, unless I cut off and resolder the plug, a rather daunting task.

    (ii) just extend the 3 coax-cable (audeo + video) that is now inputted to my wireless marmitex link?

    (iii) run a SVHS cable?

    (iv) use some sort of redistribution amplifier? If so, where can I get it?

    I have wide-screen TVs, so ideally I would like to also send the automatic amorphous signal is transmitted that switches the TV between widefield and normal modes. But this is not essential.

    SVHS cables only carry video so youd need an audio cable as well

    Surely old fashioned RF coax is the way to go (you can use an old Video or a modulator unit if theres no RF out on your DVD player ?

    I had that problem so I started using a tiny FM transmitter 50 metres range and I listen on my hifi tuner.

    Illegal in Ireland.

    SCART will work easily 100m if each of the Video, Audio cables is cable TV size / quality coax. Cut a scart cable in half and use screw terminals to join to longer coax.

    if the SCART cable has no coaxes in it put it in bin and buy a fatter one. (Gold is nothiong to do with the quality. Internal coax for each of the AV signals = quality. The SCART enable and RGB enable are only pins that should be just wires)

    L& R Audio one coax each.
    Composite video = one coax video
    S video = two coax.
    RGB video = four coax

    You can optionally run twin screened or 3 core with ground, RGB enable and SCART enable signals. It will often work without these in Composite or S-Video mode)

    If you want 500m, then use a video equaliser and Satellite grade coax for the video (Audio OK up to several km on a coax).

    I'm afraid Watty got abducted by aliens for having too many dishes and the cheek to get a new FTV card.

    For up to 20m the audio can be on as skinny as you like coax.


    Tell them the microwave will give them cateracts. Any decent/safe microwave does not interfere with Video senders.

    Do you mean the same sort of coax cable that one uses to carry audio signals to an amplifier and not 75 ohm antenna coax?

    For video use 75R aerial coax. At a pinch 50 Ohm cheapernet/LAN coax will work, but might cause ghosting
    For audio any kind
