ITV on Sky Digital in Europe

    Hi,
I'm very much a novice regarding Satellites but I've read here that its possible to receive ITV, C4 & C5 with a Free-To-View card. If you are subscribed to Sky Digital is it possible to receive these channels or do you still have to get an FTV card, based in Germany?

Also, a friend brought over a Sky box to Germany, same subscription package taken out in Ireland, but they dont receive the 4 Irish channels, everything else is ok. Is there a reason that they cant receive them and I can? There is no problem with the signal strength.

    Thanks.

All of the Irish channels, the BBCs and ITVs are on Astra 2D whose footprint is directed at the British Isles, you may be able to get them in Germany but you will need a bigger dish than normal (80cm???).

We both have an 80cm, I can pick up the Irish stations, but my freind cannot, he can get the BBC stations ok. The message says something like "This channel is not available".

He may have one of the confused cards. These cards show the Irish channels from 101 - 104 however they do not decode them. But they do decode any ITV region, ITV2*, Channel 4 and five if you tune them in and store them in other channels.

    * If you have a Family pack sub or higher.

This problem has been seen by quite a few people and from what I know it usually takes a new card to sort it out.

I had the same problem with a ‘confused card’. I rang sky and they sent out signals to sort out the problem and they did. No need for a new card.

Do you know if they can tell where you are based by sending out the signals??
Are there legal issues using the box like this outside of Ireland?? I know that we are not supposed to receive GAA games as Setanta have the rights for this.

My brother lives near london and has a ROI sub for the last six months. He had the card Activated over there no probs. I dont think thay can know where the box is. Even if thay did your paying them so yor not stealing anything

No, they can't know where the box is from sending out signals.
The only way the box can communicate with Sky, is via the
phone line. Which in ur case i guess is not plugged in :-)

I'm in Budapest and hoping to get the signal from Astra2D.
The guy in the local Satellite shop sez I can get it on a 90cm dish, although I've heard of ppl with a 1.7m dish not been able to
    pickup a signal.
    Check out www.astra2d.co.uk for footprints,
    and reports from across Europe..etc
