i know this might seem a bit stupid but is there any free program out there that singles out the guitars and basses and drum in an mp3 so i can just hear the guitar and try to play along with it without having the bass and drums and keyboard and whatever instruments in the backround

Afaik you need to get the individual midi tracks, so no.

looking for the midi of the track you are trying to play along with is a good shout... If its classic rock or older tunes then chances are someone has worked out the midi.

here's some info on removing the vocals from an audio track... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=editing&i=remove-vocals this might help a little.

If the song has an acapella released which can sometimes be the case this will make the task a lot easier.

If the song alternatively has mixed the guitar into one channel the left or right side (this isnt a frequent occurance) then the above link will also give you an idea of how to export that one track.

You could also use audacity to EQ out the lower frequencies... this can help remove the bass and lower frequencies ie kick drum/floor tom. Alternatively just mess around with equalization to see if you can isolate the guitar...

bunch of ideas there hope one can help.
