Recycling in the workplace

Considering the amount of paper, most offices consume and in particular my own office here, I'm thinking of using my boss the CTO[0] (who is more then friendly to the idea) and myself (possibly others) to enunciate some sort of recycling scheme in the office.

Fortunately the Tralee IT is just down the road from the building. "Waste management" was not on my job description, but, considering the mounting body of (albiet perhaps incidental) incidental evidence that global warming is continuing apace and the pretty much glaringly evident fact that fossil fuels won't be abandonded unless flood waters are pouring in the Windows of the White House and Downing Street, I personally think it becomes so much more important to do what you can to counteract all the negative effects of human activity on the environment.

One obvious and easy place to do that is in the office.

Paper, metal and plastic, could and should be recycled. Of course it's a hassle and yes, most people are overworked/underpaid, but again, I think you essentially have a duty to do your bit, to protect the environment, especially if you are in a position in your office, where you could enunciate such a scheme.

    Go, make it happen.

Been thinkin about that for a while- specially in my last job where all office members bar me, printed every e-mail that came in to them. Thats about 1/3 coverage on an A4 sheet that after three months winds up in a bin. Theres plenty more offices like that too I am told.

    Pfft.

    Scandalous.

It would be great if I could convince the place to move to the 'electirc paper' motif, but, I'd settle for a decent recycling scheme.

My boss is on record as being 'friendly' to this idea, we'll see.

I'll probably post a progress report of this.

    *sigh*
    Back to the trenches.
