Is SCART breakout adapter directional?

I bought a SCART breakout adapter...it's a device with SCART socket on one end a SCART plug on the other and a set of breakout audio type connections in between so you can hook up phono-type connection to your amp.

My problem is I plug my input (SCART plug from a Digisender) into the *socket* side of the breakout adapter and nothing happens on the auidio connection. Silence. I'm curious are these things unidirectional or could it be that the input has to go to the *plug* side of the adapter before I'll get audio breakout?

    TIA.

AFAIK they're directional as a scart carries both play and record connections.
