New Install problems - no Irish stations

My mother in law has just had Sky installed and despite three phone calls to Sky she still has no Irish Stations. The card has the ROI EPG - but gives a 08 Message "This Programme is unavailable" on RTE1/N2/TV3/TG4. As I suspected Sky have mixed up an ROI sub with UK stations as I can tune in UTV, ITV2, C4 and C4 in other channels. Speaking to Sky twice yesterday they maintained that it was not possible and would get technical to look into the problem.

Can anyone tell me exactly what Sky has done wrong, and what I have to say to them to get them to sort it out.

I think I remember seeing a similar problem discussed here, but after searching through the archives I cant find any reference to it.

yeah , do yourself a favour, dont phone sky again , what you have with sky is great , there are people who would kill to have sky make a mistake like that, just leave it as it is , and go to your local electrical store and buy a set top ariel , and that way you will have the irish channels.

Sorry mate, I'm not even going to suggest that she swap cards with someone, it would be a world of pain as they plan to use box office a fair bit. I just want Sky to sort it out.

    WHY????

No Irish station transmits Animorphic (Widescreen).

With a roof aerial and a good signal the picture is better than Sky.

Of course for all the people with BAD irish TV signals, RTE, TG4 and TV3 ought to pay for the sub. That would encourage some upgrading of the network!

The ONLY advantage of Irish TV on Sky is for no or poor Signal. Great for Liverpool and Brussels.

Currently where they live in Co. Meath they can pick up virtually no terestrial signal. They have been with Corus for years and finally had enough of the piss poor quality of service so got Sky. No accounting for taste but her favourite programmes would be Fair City and The Late Late so getting the Irish Stations on to Sky is pretty important to her.

get a mirror subscription..... you get the best of both worlds then.... all Irish and all British channels..... (mutters something about lucky bastard to himself as he skulks off into the night...)

Very strange, you should have your choice of transmitters for an RTÉ signal, even with a pair of bunny ears. John, I'm from Co. Meath, can you give a rough location of where you are? (I'll understand if you dont want to say where.)

I dont live there, it is the mother in law's house. It is near Kilcock Golfclub on the Summerhill road. They have always had crappy TV, even with a seriously large roof aerial which has since fallen off. The reception with the bunny ears is just about watchable for RTE but rubbish for TV3. She is not interested in workarounds to get the ROI stations by other means than Sky, even when they had Corus she never watched UTV/C4 so has no need for them. She just wants perfect reseption of the ROI Stations, some movies, and some of the Food/Discovery type channels so Sky seems to be the perfect solution. - If only it would work.

I was jsut hoping that someone here could confirm what Sky have done wrong so I can tell them what to fix. Things always seem to get resolved a little faster when you can tell the Sky person what to look for on the computer.

That said I am still having a pain in the butt with Sky Box Office on my own Sky system (but that is another story all together). I have rung Sky about 20 times in the last 5 weeks about stuff they keep messing up on my extended familys subscriptions and I am really tired going around and around in circles talking to those untrained drones.

This is a problem that only sky can resolve I'm afraid. Its a technical fault which i thought they had sorted out. In the past when it has occurred they have tried to send a new enablement signal and when that does not work replace the card witha new one.

Ah, South Meath, you should have yer pick of Kippure, Three Rock and Cairn Hill in Longford....

What has happened is that they have sent out the wrong card/wrong signal to activate the card.

Either they need to send a new signal to the card in the box, or they need to send out a new card.

Cheers Tony & DMC - I think I will just demand a new card for her and take it from there. The current card might even still work for UTV/C4 through Other Channels even when they de-activate it so it might be worth the pain of waiting 5 days for another card.

On another note @ Tony - My Box Office packed in again, after they sorted it out last week - Im going to ring them again tonight and tear into them once again. Pity the number isnt freefone any more, it costs money while they waste my time which is doubly frustrating LOL.

Yeah, I thought they had it ironed out too, though I had a few installs over the past two months that had the dodgy cards and required replacement cards. And another few, where RTE's didnt' come on at first but worked fine after a few hours! The madness of it all!

Mind you, it's nowhere near as bad as it was at the start of the year when the new cards were first being issued!

If you have sky why don't you swap boxes with them.
Easy enough for them to errr change their phone number * nudge nudge* *wink* *wink* to yours, just tell sky and plug in.
Or errr swap houses :D but try to resist laughing when telling this to the sky drones.... there shouldn't be a prob as ye are both in ROI.
When you have pretended to swap houses then the ordering of box office is sorted.

    All problems solved I think...

Update: Spoke to Sky again because her card still is not working properly, and they said that no one had bothered doing anything about it yet!!! - So I went balistic and got a free months viewing for her LOL - They still reckon it may take another 72 hours to look into it then they will consider sending out a new card.... back to playing the waiting game.
