i am trying to install Knoppix to the 3 gb hard drive of a amd k6 300 64 mb of ram
and when it gets to 57% i get loads of read errors and input/output errors
knoppix runs fine when i run it from the cd
its only when i go to install it to the hdd that i have problems
so is something wrong with the cd or is it something else?

What desktop environment does it use, KDE I presume?

Knoppix should detect and configure the sound module automatically.

If so, go to the "Start Menu", and "Multimedia", "Sound", and something like KMix or AuMix (IIRC). Make sure the sound is turned up on the slider tabs, they're usually set to 0 by default.

It helps if you've a good set of speakers/headphones too, I was using a crap pair yesterday, wondering why the sound under Linux was so crackly; changed them for a better pair and sound was fine.
