Well the title is quite self-explanetory...
What do you think about films when the bad guy wins?
I can only remember two films I saw that the bad guy won in
    ---- The Hole
    ---- Stranger (or something like that:confused: )
The Hole was an excellent film, but at the end it just annoys me \o/
    sigh..... i hate crazy girls.....
Anywho, what films did you see that the bad guy wins?
    Did it piss you off?
Or did you like the originality and and unpredictability?

not that im that bothered about seeing the hole, you do realise that youve possibly ruined the end for anyone here who is.
I suggest using a spoiler in future....

in fairness the thread title implies spoilers.
how do you discuss this topic without them?
    the whole thread would
look like this and it would be a pain in the ass to read, think for a second about a threads title before leaping in

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 10,247 Mod ✭✭✭✭flogen

well if needs be, consider the person who wants to put up a suggestion for bad guy endings but doesnt want to see the others, without spoilers s/he is likely to spot at least one

swordfish . Films leave room for a sequel if the bad guy wins, well i think so anyway

Vin Diesel was refreshingly anti-hero in Pitch Black.

    The Usual Suspects

one of the best "bad-guy-wins-in-the-end" films.

Theres a bit of a difference between anti hero and bad guy.

an anti hero is just that, a hero but one that uses unconventional methods to reach his/her noble goals

a bad guy is someone who is out for themselves or in search of an evil goal who will do anything to aid his/her own good rather than the greater good.

    The 'bad guys' won
    in Wicker Man.

    Verdict :
The film probably wouldn't have been 1/10th as powerful had the Edward Woodward character got away. So I guess it can be a good thing!

    Memento

Kind Hearts and Coronets (though I think of him as the good guy)

Spartacus (kind of, at least the good guy gets crucified)

Amadeus (again, kind of, depends on who you see as the "good guy" though)

Jean de Florette (if you ignore the sequel)

    Michael Collins (deValera becomes President):p

    The Empire Strikes Back
    Se7en
    Scanners
    Invasion of the body snatchers.

tends to happen in alot of horros films actually.

What the hell are you doing reading a thread called "Bad guy wins in the end" if you don't want to read the endings? That makes no sense whatsoever.

whoever suggested memento, what are you talking about???

the bad guys does'nt win/live, if you payed attention to the film, the story runs backwards and one of the first things you see is the bad guy being shot.

i would have to agree with the usuall suspects, class film ending, probably one of the best i've seen to date.

tbh i don't think enough films do leave the bad guys win, i'd like to see more of them, can't quite remember fully but i think swordfish was another where travolta lived at the end, must watch the dvd again sometime to see if i'm right lol

as for people bitch'in about spoiling films for them by reading this.... what are you expecting having read the title??

Sorry guy, looks like you weren't paying attention to the movie.
Joey Pantoliono, the guy who was shot at the beginning, was not the bad guy at all. If anything, he was a friend. Carrie-Ann Moss's character manipulated Guy Pearce's character to make him think Joey Pants was the bad guy. What the audience realises at the end of the film is that Guy Pearce could have killed the bad guy ages ago, and not remembered it.

So, for this reason, the bad guys 'won'.

We need a moron filter on topics like these. I'm off to create a thread called 'In-depth discussion of the surprise endings of movies' and we'll see how many of these geniuses come on and complain about spoiler tags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 679 ✭✭✭Eye

well memento is one of those films which even critics say is open to interpritation ...

"since many aspects of Memento can be interpreted in more than one way (for example, during one critical conversation, it's up to each audience member to determine whether or not Teddy is telling the truth - Nolan does not offer a "definitive" answer), it's possible for one movie-goer to have a completely different vision of the film's backstory than the person sitting next to him/her. "

so far enough depending on which way you look at it i guess you could think that maybe Joe Pantoliano is'nt the bad guy. to me all the evidensce seemed to point towards him alright, but i can also see why you might think he is innocent :-\

guess we gotta agree to differ on that film ;)

i think its good when the "bad" guy wins in the end. usually the good guy is a two dimensional goody little two shoes who id like to dismember with an axe!! most of the time the baddies have more interesting characters anyway. you know the t.v. show "early edition"? the main guy in that is a typical good little boy! id like to hack him to bits with my axe!

I believe morons can be detected by their slow reflexes, so perhaps you should put a little flash game on boards at the start to test the posters and if you aren't good enough, you get sent to

Memento spoilers below, don't read if you haven't seen the film....
I don't agree, we see who killed her and how. We also very clearly see the way Carrie-Ann Moss and Guy Pearce's characters manipulate the situation to get what they want (or don't want). Joe Pantoliano's character didn't kill the wife, I don't think that's open to interpretation at all. He's a bad guy in one sense (he was also taking advantage of Guy Pearce's character), but he didn't kill the wife.

i just assumed that people would have a bit of cop on & not ruin the ending to films that are going to be on tv within a week of posting.

No what makes no sense is people who spoilt upcoming movies not having enough brains to realise that they'll spoil it for practically everyone because hardly anyone could possibly have seen the damned movie. I'm spoilt too now and I'm also pissed.
