I'd be carefull about using these discs, espescially if you have a Pioneer A05/105 writer. These discs are not recommended by Pioneer, and I'd say stay well clear.
    Have a look here
    http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=647#comments
at some user comments on these discs.
From bitter experience I'll never buy anything that isn't on Rytek dye in future, it's well worth the extra money for reliable discs.

I bought a box from Aria with my burner...

No coasters as of yet, but most of them will only burn at 2x speed...

And these are the reds not the yellows... stay clear....

write at 4x for me and not one bad one so far, worth taking a chance on for the price I think, available from the shop up at the main counter

I ordered stuff on peats web site a couple of time and just got ignored . i.e no money taken off my card and no goods in the post.
Its as if i never went to their website. Emails were ignored too.
What kind of carry on is that :)

    For DVD recordable try bigpockets.co.uk

I wouldn't bother with the Peats website, I have contacted Peats many times regarding prices on their site and availabliity of stock. Each time the goods were either mis-priced or not available. Best to call in

Bought these earlier today at the counter.
Only burnt one so far, but it's working fine.
(Burnt on a Pioneer 106, viewed on a Pioneer 636).

Might have to go back and get some more at this price!
Checked out a few other shops while in town, and there was nothing near this price..
    Dixons - €44 for a pack of 10.
    Maplins - ~€5 each
    Argos - ~€30 pack of 5

    These DVDs - €1.20 each...

peoples you should be buying blank dvds on the web.
Even at 1.20 a disk its a ripoff.

Hmm.. Change my tune a little, a couple of coasters later (2 out of 5)..
I guess you get what you pay for..

Same problem, movies freezing towards end of movie.. PS2 doesn't like 'em at all either...

Go on, back this up with some useful information, like where/What!
This is the bargain forum, so if you have better bargains, why not post 'em?

    Here's some useful links:

Jor el: From bitter experience I'll never buy anything that isn't on Rytek dye in future, it's well worth the extra money for reliable discs.

This URL suggests that they were originally pretty good, however, with the decrease in price, quality has also dropped, and these are no longer recommended..

    Sorry Krusty,
I thought i had posted the links before but it must have been in another thread.

I use the ones you mention (mostly bigpockets).

I normally go to dvdrhelp.com and check there for the cheapest going.
I bought bulkpaq first and they are fine for data and playstation but the odd one is iffy for movies (always towards the end) so you have to watch the movie before you know if its worked.

Datasafe are good for everything, but verbatim seems to be the best of the cheapo disk.

Also don't buy dvds of a speed faster than you intend to write at unless you cant get slower one cheaper.
I always write at 1 speed now and haven't burned a coaster in the last 50 or so.
Looks like 1 speed burning is much more stable for windows.
Make sure you have the latest version of nero or recordnowmax. Also check your firmware to make sure its the latest.
You'll get items on dvdrhelp about this too.

wow i thought that white bit of foam was to protect the disks, guess now it's to hide the serial number!!! huars

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,503 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

    Thanks DaithiSurfer..
    I'll check it out now..

So, you reckon burning backups of movies at 1x will decrease the chance of those movie errors to wards the end of the movie?

The DataWrite yellows didn't work on my PS2 at all...
Verbatim +RW did though, which is nice..
    :D

I couldnt believe it til i tried it either, but now i burn everything at 1 speed.
I think a lot of cheap dvdr maunfacturers give their disks a speed rating of a lot more than they should have.

Have used the DATAWRITE from Komplett for the last while now and lost about 2 out of my first box and that was a software problem.

Would go to Peats to try these out but just ordered 2 more spindles off Komplett

Bought some DataSafe Riteks from SVP (BlankDiscshop.co.uk), spool of 25 for €43.76 to my door (3 days), which works out at: €1.75 each, and they work like a dream, for everything I throw at them...

For the extra 55c per disc, they're well worth it...
Ritek G04 Dye by the way, which seems to be the flavour du jour..

It ain't the media in a lot of cases, it's the hardware

Have had my Philips DVD+RW for well over 2 years now (In case you're guessing, I got it for over £800 at the time  ) and it has not had a single coaster yet  although I usually buy the cheapest media I can find. No media I have ever used only wrote at 1xspeed

Got two NEC ND-1100's in work earlier this year and had failure rate of 50% - 70% at +R no matter what media we through at it and 100% failure rate at +RW. This got a good bit better after I flashed the firmware I have to admit

These failure rates were all in the area where DVD writing is most vulnerable: very large files

It is actually the media in most cases.
You will get very very few if any coasters when you are just writing data to your dvdrs. The problems occur when you write a movie to a dvd.
It will normally play fine on your pc (i assume because it can correct errors better than a standalone dvd player) but on a lot of standalones movies burnt on particualar media will not work.
I have very bad problems when writing movies on Datasafe Blue dvds so i just use those ones for data.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,503 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

PS2s are particularly media sensitive, and only like the good 'uns..

I don't think any DVD writer or media would have significant problems with writing standard data, e.g. Files, backups etc..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 843 ✭✭✭DaithiSurfer

would you believe my ps2 accepts a lot more burned movies than most standalones that i have also tried them on.
verbatim dvd-r though usually work on anything.
