text off edge of tv?

Just recently noticed at home (in Lucan) that the text on certain channels seems to go off the edge of my TV. I thought it was just my TV getting old but it only seems to happen on English channels. It is more noticeable on some channels then others! For instance, was watching Stargate SG1 on Sky1 and when the Stargate SG1 wording comes up at the beginning all I can see is 'argate S'!

I still thought it was something to do with my NTL connection or my TV. Then I was up in my friend’s house in Goatstown and the same thing was happening! Different TV, different size, same channels, same NTL. Now I figured it was deffo a NTL problem.

But I was in my parent’s house last night and they have Sky Digital. And the same thing was happening for the terrestrial channels, sky1/channel 4/UTV etc.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I going mad?

Ive noticed this myself, im assuming it only occurs on non-widescreen tv's?

I have a Sony widescreen TV and no matter what aspect I put it on I still see bits of text missing. This is especially noticable on UTV during ads. I suspect that NTL are receiving a widescreen signal and sending out a standard 4:3 signal or something stupid like that.

Yes..it is bloody annoying alright. I felt like ringing NTL about this yesterday but couldn't be bothered. I can just imagine the trouble I would have even trying to explain to them the issue and then they would just say they will look into it and do nothing as usual.

If it's NTL digital I remember there's an option to change the widescreen format of the signal coming in. Make sure it matches up with the widescreen format of your tv.

Just finished reading the thread linked by Go Figure. At least im not going mad and there is a problem on NTL's side :) Still very annoying though! No point in ringing them as Im sure all they would say is something like they know there is a problem and are trying to fix it.

    Cheers

Phew - what a relief - And there was me thinking there was something wrong with the telly. We have a non-widescreen Sony TV - It really gets noticable on certain channels where the little logo is partially obscured, or the credits from some shows get cropped a bit.

Yeah StarGate (Sky1) is the only program I've noticed that with... doesn't matter what aspect I set.
    (Sony Widescreen)
