TV3 are looking to increase their add break from 9 mins to 12 mins per hour.

I personnally don't beleive that RTE only show 6 mins per hour and that TV3 only show 9 mins per hour.

3 add breaks during a 50 min show on TV3 = less then 3 min add break?????

2 add breaks during a 50 min show on RTE = less then 3 mins per add break???

and don't forget add break before and after shows??????

    I just don't think so.

I completely agree, there's no way that any of the channels keep within there specified limits in terms of commercial breaks. Also if TV3 want to increase their viewership this really isn't the way to go about it!

As far as I know, RTE get around the ad limit by showing less ads when people aren't tuned in and then unleashing the stored up minutes at prime time.

    That explains it!

    Sky shows are an hour
    RTE shows are 50 minutes
    BBC shows are 45 minutes

if you look at the schedules you will see prorams like Buffy and Star Trek all have the above times on the respective channels

I seriously doubt RTE go over the 6 minutes.

But there's something you're probably not aware of.. promo's do NOT count as ads.. and they can usually be a few minutes per hour.. or upwards of 1 minute or more per ad break..

Well promos should count as ad space!

    I know but............................
    What about sponsored shows?

Also Sky One is just one big add break for Sky.

During an ad break in Dunphy Show tonight I went to the kitchen and cut a slice of cake after wondering what to eat, wondered about a hot drink but decided on milk
realised I needed a pee, went back in the kitchen got my cake and milk went back to the front room and the ads were still on! They last forever...it must be costing viewers.

I watched an episode of Teachers on TV3 and at the same time I watched and episode of Teachers on E4. I missed very little in each episode due to the amount of adds on both channels.

Some of the UKTV channels on $ky are cutting the number of ads they run to attract more viewers
12 minute of ads per hour are the norm in the US (in some cases it can be as hgh as 18 minutes) but I dont think Europeans would put up with that

Most show form the us go out for 45 mins so they have to make the hour with 15mins of adds.

One of the main reasons that US TV is considered crap is the high levels of adverts on US stations. Ads before and after the credits are often the norm ...

Irish and UK TV is that bit more watchable because of the low level of adverts. I hope the BCI don't give TV3 permission for this increase, it could be just one step in the direction of American style commercial breaks.

it could be just one step in the direction of American style commercial breaks.

It could aready be happening ITV show pleaty of adds at the moment. An Hour long show as 3 add breaks now.

Oddly they started Prime Suspect 5 mins after TV3 and ended it 5mins before.
