I need some answers! Our department is being audited by the County. I have
been waiting for someone to give me an explanation as to why Precinct 216
gave Al Gore a minus 16022 when it was uploaded. Will someone please
explain this so that I have the information to give the auditor instead of
    standing here "looking dumb".

We had electronic voting in Dublin at the last general election. In next years local elections we'll have it across the board.

The company behind this wonderful technology has copyrighted all information on how poor their system is.

They have been chasing around the net putting DMCA cease and desist orders on anybody who hosts or links to these copyrighted discussion and memo's.

Other favourite items are the involved discussion on whether they should take the momentous step of putting a password on the MS Access db which holds all the votes and the 'System test completed' message which was inserted after... well after someone asked them to do a system test. Not after an actual test or anything.

At least our voting technology is a secret so no-one knows how bad it is.

Fine Gael calls for a halt to the introduction of e-voting

Fine Gael's spokesperson on the environment, Bernard Allen TD, on Wednesday again demanded a halt to the introduction of electronic voting until all parties involved in the elections can be satisfied that the security of the electronic system is absolute. The call comes ahead of next June's local and European elections. "Reservations have been expressed about the security of the electronic system, even on the limited basis with which it was used in the last general election. The government's response to these reservations was that more money was being spent on new machines for forthcoming elections, for use in the system that would be used nationwide," said Allen.

looking at those links diehard use a 16 bit checksum
(cf. 1 in 60,000 chance of faulty card.)

no mention if they use CRC or just checksum
CRC provides immunity against almost all errors that would cancel each other out on a simple checksum.

CRC32 has been around for ages - NO EXCUSE for not using it.
MD5 and other 128 bit systems are in general use...

In a country with a population of 250,000,000 a system that only has a 1 in 60,000 chance of picking up an error - pffff that almost sounds like it's designed to be rigged...
