I use eircom DSL 512k at home and am very pleased with it - I think it's very fast and I now don't know how I put up with a modem connection for so long!

However, I was wondering how many of you folks have access to an even faster service at work/college? Would you notice the difference?

Do you think that in a few years we will be scrambling for 8Mb/s DSL connections or will 512k-1Mb be sufficient for the next few years?

At my workplace we have a 55Mb/s connection to the Internet (I work for a large bank), but we all have to go through a damn web proxy which is melting in it's rack and means I experience a 5k/sec service!

    -D.

for browsing the work connection dosent make a difference ... but when it comes to downloads ...zzziiiiiippppppp ... I have taken files (that i am pretty sure wouldnt have been proxied) down at 1.5MByte / s ... depends onwhat site and when I do it though ... weekends its always good, early mornings is good too...after 1PM on weekdays it is about the same as at home

Downloads and media/streaming are the main benefits, we've 155mbps in the office, and files, especially from Irish mirrors hop down at several MB per second. :) We'll all have 10gb fibre links at home in ten years ;)

Only thing I'll miss about college is the net connection*

Start of the college year d/l'ing @ roughly 12 megs in 10 seconds

    *and classmates of course.

    It is what it's.
