what consoles did you all have. when i was about ten i had a commodore , spectrum (complete with rubbery keyboard) and a nes.
the spectrum i lost, and the nes i lost too. i took my commodore apart and messed around with it , put it back together and watched it melt.... ahh good times!

did anyone else have the donald duck game for the commodore? the aim of the game was to stack shelves and perform other menial duties to earn money!! what an idea for a game eh?

i had Bionic Commando for the C64. that was the best, and i had Ghostbusters and some other game that i never let load fully. i'd load it up to the pre-game thing (which was better than the actual game) and just play that! "Beat-It " or sumtin it was called!

    ah... the NES...the original:rolleyes:

Was it "Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O' Fun" by any chance? I used to borrow that cartridge from my mate on many an occasion. Klax (annoying Tetris-like game) Flimbo's Quest(side-to side scroller, not unlike Alex Kidd) and International Soccer(Pants...but damn greatful of it at the time) were on it too.

"Sensible soccer" Ppfftt ...I wish ;)

Try this --> Commodore <-- for nostalgia!

Yeah, I think everyone seemed to have that one! I ruined my spacebar on that feckin' game, trying to re-arrange Arnies arm and the like  Only cleared it once or twice mind.

All of them. I loved them all... I thought the whole feel to them was great. It'd be great if they release a new improved PC version.

My first was a Commodore 64. As a matter of fact, still have it. And it's disk drive, tape unit and printer :) Flimbo's Quest was the cartridge that came with it. Bionic Commando, Monty something and Flimbo were all good :) Got very near the end (I presume it was near the end) of Flimbo one time and one time only. I got a bit miffed that I lost when I had gotten so far so I never played it as enthusiastically since.

Then we got a Megadrive. And that game where the cat had to collect loads of balls of wool. I can hum the music and recall the between-stage "What could possibly go wrong?". The name escapes me.

    <edit>Bubsy was the name.

    It is what it's.

I remember the day I walked into o'connors in galway and first saw Altered Beast working. Such graphics!

I had an Atari Lynx for a while too( actually, my first was a second hand ZX81, and I've pretty much had all the usual ocmputers/consoles since!), I think Batman Returns was the one that impressed me most on the Lynx.
I also had an Afterburner type game on the lynx, the ground was made up of scrolling grids. I played it so much, I could see my classroom in school moving in the same fashion if I was daydreaming......

They're not, I admit. Most were used exclusively for games though.

I LOVED the commodore and the games that came with it (the aforementioned Fiendish Freddy's, Klax, Flimbo's Quest etc etc) I'd sit there for hours going thru the Klax game trying desperately to complete it!!!

Dizzy was an egg wasn't he.. had to go round collecting stuff and trying to get off islands to safety etc had LOADS of dizzy games, the one that was like pacman annoyed me somewhat though, preferred the actual games where you actually had a storyline.

Had a Sega Master System (which my bro sold on a whim to a mate of his in school so he could make a few quid... all without telling me I might add... grrrrrrrr) had alex kidd on that which was another game i really liked.

And out of sheer boredom got a 2nd hand sega megadrive which is now lying doing nothing at my parents in the event of me going home to visit them, which is nice.

    jeasus, the old 400 WHA?

    erm lemmie see, in order

    Atari 800Xl (76 Basic ROM I think)
    Atari 800XL(78 Basic ROM)
    Atari 2600
    C64
    Spectrum 128
    ST
    STE
    Megadrive
    AMIGA 500
    Apple Quadra 900

after that it was all downhill and x86 based!

Of those I have the XL (78 ROM) and the STE (1psu replacement and whopping 1Mb upgrade later)

i plan on collecting all my old machines and some more over time. Emualtors are cool and all, but its not the same as waiting half an hour of screeching noise for a game to load.

My favourite game was probably Boulder Dash on the 800XL, VROOM on the ST and F1GP on the Amiga. cant really remember many of the games from the others, espcially the C64, there was so many!!

If it's like a normal cassette or the BBC micro one there will be two screws on either side of the Head. One will have a spring under the metal plate the head sits on. You simply turn this a bit. Turning the wrong way makes it worse.

Get an audio cassette with some high pitched stuff on it and plug a set of head phones into the recorder , then using a plastic screwdriver press down on the head gently - if the high pitches get stronger then tighten the screw half a turn or so.. (try not to use a metal screwdriver and don't use a magnetised one - test it out on a stapel or paper clip first.)

Ahhh the old atari 2600jr, how fondly i remember the endless hours of pitfall, did that game actually have an end? then on to the nes, complete with duck hunt and the gun, classic or what!

Anyone remember Operation Wolf on the NES, i am to this day convinced its the best game i've ever played.

Ah the good old days. It was great growing up with 2 brothers who also played video games. Between us we had/have

    Amstrad
    Amiga 500
    NES*
    Megadrive & Mega CD
    SNES*
    Gameboy*
    Atari Lynx II*
    Game Gear*
    3DO*
    Playstation*
    N64*
    Saturn*
    Dreamcast*
    PS2*
    Gamecube*
    Xbox*

those marked with '*' are ones we still have floating around the house. I have R.O.B for the NES somewhere, dunno if he still works! :D
Demolition Man on 3DO is one of the funniest games ever. Totally crap but oh so entertaining :p

i had a spectrum (pure class) and a commodore. with that i had a NES and a sega megadrive (still one of the best). but before all of that as a little kid i had one of those super-cool-5-game consoles with about 5 pixels on the screen involving "pong" and any other variation possible.

    thems were the days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

I was given an old spectrum when i was about 7. Then i got my brick-like game boy a few months later and tetris just owned everything! at the moment ive only got gc, n64, gba, gba sp. New stuff.:ninja:

I still have any 'consoles' I ever had starting with the rubber keyed 48k Spectrum, then a Megadrive, original big Gameboy, Playstation, Dreamcast, Xbox, Gamecube and finally my latest addition of GBA SP.

Ah the thoughts of loading a Spectrum game: beeeeeeeeeeep bip, beeeeeeeeeeeeep bip, beeeeeeeeep blueeeeeeeeeeghhhhhhh and then hoping to the last second that it would load correctly.
